Post Impressions on new 40 EFI Briggs Block
On surface drives. What kind of difference are we seeing? I bought a boat and getting ready to match it up with a motor, no motor rn.

With my budget I could have a used 35 by next month, in time for duck season in UT. Or I could hang tight keep saving and be ready to buy a brand new 40 no later than middle of November.

Is the performance difference (stock), or the 5 extra hp worth saving a couple extra months?

I'm happy with my 40 and I have been seeing excellent speeds on it. I agree with Bryce, it depends on what you want bro. Both options would suit you well. Personally, I love the performance of my 40 for a stock internals motor

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah my thoughts were get a used stock 35 and go mod nuts over time, but I didn’t know how comparable the 40s were against a stout modded 35.

The Briggs guys made it sound pretty sexy I think it’s just that whole number that says 40 on it that’s got me all twisted up lol

If you are thinking used, a Mud Buddy Black Death 45 would be a good starter motor. I've been running one for 5 seasons with out issues. Very easy to service and has plenty of power to push heavy loads.

Friday night I got to play around with a 40. It’s night and day stronger than the 37. 2 identical boats with more of a load on the 40 and the 40 was running 29 where the 37 was running 18-19. Getting on plane was as easy as no load on a 37, it’s a no brainer get the 40.

I saw a video the other day of a stock GTR 40 on a 18x48 gator tail extreme running 36mph on GPS.
STOCK motor..!!!

If you look back on here 3 years and back, 35 mph was the shit and everyone wanted their boat to run 35...large majority of these boats used to do low 30’s at max..now we got stockers doing it no problem

I run over 30 with 3 people and a heavy load with my 40. The fastest I have fan in the boat was 36.2. That was completely empty. My boat is never empty. I average 32-34 with two people and a fishing load with my 3 blade and I run 30-31 no matter what load I put in the boat with my two blade. It's a good, strong motor so far buddy
