2015 GTR 37EFI to a GTR-XD 40EFI
The torque difference is more than noticeable. It's substantial. However, it's not a true apples-to-apples comparison because I'm not running the same prop.
Prior Setup: 16.5 x 46 Instagator 37 EFI (2015) GTR 2-blade 10p made by Powertech; this was one of their "old" props that everyone liked before they changed manufacturers. Boat is all open layout with 4' front deck 6 gal fuel tank up front
Current setup: Same hull. Added 12 gal tank up front. 40EFI GTR-XD Prop is GTR's 2-blade that is current stock and is marked as a 10p
New setup is every bit of 2-2.5mph faster, with double the fuel up front and in 85-degree, humid weather. I only have 3 hours on the motor and it's still breaking in, and seems to be getting stronger.
I have a brand new Mudbuddy/Backwater Performance Big Blade 10p sitting, waiting to be run. I've read that the GTR 2-blade isn't a fast prop so I'm interested to see what the Big Blade does.
The torque difference is noticeable. Running through the thickest cow lillies we have here in FL, the new setup is still faster than the 37EFI was in clean water. In clean water, my top speed is all over the rev limiter (33mph) so if I can't stay off it with the Big Blade, I'll pitch it up to an 11.
