Optimal rpms for my rig with a worked 12 pitch rapid and cut skeg is 4360. My two blade runs 4450 at optimal

The new 40 has different internals thus can spin it pass 5000, would I, not for long, but you can if you have the mod done to bypass.

im runnin a raptor 3 blade on mine, its on 1854 prodigy. still breaking motor in but am trying to gather info as this is my first surface drive so im learning how to drive it as i go.

I put a new 40 briggs powerhead on my old middle section and gen 3 {2:1} lower unit Friday. put on a new 2 blade prop. was all over the 4830+- cut out. ran best 4750 +-. motor is a fricken beast. gonna need to choke it down some with more prop. 3 year warranty, let it eat.

The old man read something about them blowing up after 50. I run mine 4 days a week and have over 50 and she runs like a top. I'm outrunning most of the heavily modded motors in my area. Couldn't be happier with my 40

I had a 36 with a carb. new efi 40 feels stronger motor and pulls to 4800 real quick. I have a 2:1 lower unit and went from 23-24 normal deep speeds to 27-28 normal deep speed. faster in skinny water. with the 1.5:1 lower unit it would probly pickup a couple mph, but I ain't worried about that, I want the grunt in the floton. need a 13'' prop if I can find one.

Why is it that my 40 never gets over 4250? My 40 only runs about 23 or 24 with a load and will get 26 or 27 with just me in it but it is nowhere near 4250.

Mine set at 5500, turn it 5000 Everytime I got out. Runs best at 4850 though. Still playing with props.

with 16 hrs on my 40, it likes to run at 4750 +-. changed the oil today. first oil change, put 15w-50 mobil one and a wix #51348 oil filter. it bounces on the rev box a lot, glad it has a 3 yr warranty. the starter drags like a mofo, but it keeps starting.

Y'all need some prop work done and some cupping/pitch added if y'all are turning that many rpms imo. Mine turns 4350 with my 12 pitch rapid prop, and 4500 with my 10 pitch fat blade. At those rpms I get the best performance on my rig. I am also running a cut skeg

I run what's off the shelf. i'm the only person I know with a gen3 lower unit and a 40, so i'm not gonna spend a bunch of money guinnea pigging for the 'man'. been there, done that. lol snapping worked blades and going back and forth to the prop guy is a pain in the neck.

i'm at 60 hrs on the 40 now. I had the valves adjusted as I heard them banging around the 30 hour mark. been great ever since. motor is strong. turning 4800 all the time like I do, it definitely burns more fuel than my 36 did. but it steps quick with a load and is faster, so it's a wash.

Here is my take.... Prop your rig to run 50 or so RPM under the rev limit Empty with half tank fuel.. That will allow you to load the motor and still have nuts to plane loads. If you trying to pitch it for every MPH you will sacrifice down low... Just cause I can make a MM run 40' don't mean they fast....Keep it useable fellas.

Yep. I'm running a 13.5p now. My heavyweight 1854 SBX holds 32mph a 4750rpm now. Not 40mph but plenty for what I do and how heavy it is. 3 batteries, extended deck, fish deck in back, cooler under the console, other fish cooler with ice, 14 gallon tank under extended deck.
