I’m running a stock 35 mudbuddy on a 16’x44 gator trac. Wondering what speeds I should be getting. When I have just me and my son I still not moving like it seems like it should. Any help is appreciated.

I would guess you would be running around 22-26 with you and your boy and a very small load. What speeds are you getting?

Long transom or short transom motor? Height of your transom? Rpms you are turning at best speed?

How much junk in the boat, how fat are you and your son?

To many variables to give a guesstimate.

Short transom. 13”. I gps yesterday and today. Yesterday me and buddy probably close 480 lbs deeks guns and gear with wind 16mph best I could do. This morning me a different buddy and my son and gear never got over 12 mph.

Surprisingly there are still some non cdi motors being sold. I've seen this when guys buy the cheaper motors online when the model number doesn't quite match. Seen some weird carburetors too. Some aren't even made to idle. Aside from all this I think your motor is weak. It needs a health check soon

If I put a new prop how much more speed will that get me
And what kind is best. Also if I can find someone
Around here who knows ends and outs and what to look
For what should I tell them to look at. Most everyone
I come across just do service work for Briggs. They
Don’t really know much about how one is supposed
To be set up.

Post subject:  Re: Turtle!!

too many factors other than prop.

- valve lash set correct
- valve leaking by, thus loosing power, thus slow boat.
- worn prop ( but correct by blue shy, worn prop = more rpms)
- does your hull have any hooks? meaning does the bottom of your hull look like a lays potato chip
- carb adjustment. If stock carb, one jet could be partially plugged. Have seen this and will run like a top out of water, but once under load, will basically only be hitting "great" on 1 cylinder.
- Is your throttle cable set correct. the butterfly or slide (mikuni) may not be opening up all the way
- governor set correct correctly

I had a 2007 and if I remember correctly, 2010 was the first year that the CDI engines came out. I have a 2010 at my house right now that is CDI and it doesn't say marine on it. Wasy way to check is to take a pic of the coils. They will look totally different that the non-cdi engines.

Motor issues. Spring was not letting governer open
All way up. Seems simple but for a carpenter it was
Just like trying to read Chinese. Thanks again for
All the help I’m sure I will be back soon as I’m looking
To add just a few performance parts to help out a little
More.
