Post Mikuni carb kit, worth it?
I was finally able to verify my 23hp Gator Tail had some work done to it. It has exhaust (which I knew), cam, heads and the stock carb with bigger jets. If I swapped out the carb for a 34 mm Mikuni kit from BPS, do you think I would notice any improvement, or would it not be worth it? Thanks!

When I put one on my 35 I did not notice much power Improvement, but it starts and idles way better. I also feel like you get a broad range of power.

For whatever it’s worth, I did a dyno jet carb kit on a Yamaha rhino 450, paired with exhaust and cold air, I saw a nice little difference. I would imagine with your other mods, it couldn’t hurt to do the carb kit

I would use the 33 with the accelerator pump. The bps kit is way overpriced for the carb it comes with. Unless something changed, the kit for the 23 is the same price as the kit for the big block and comes with a carb that costs a third of the price of the hsr.

The 34 is a round slide. Requires a slide attachment to make it flow better. The 33 flat slide (and even the other flat slides without the accelerator pump) is much better as CB said.

So the kit does not sound worth it I guess. Looks like I’ll probably just leave it as it is. I am not knowledgeable enough to piece together a kit on my own, if I went the 33 route.

It’s easy man, the kit should come with directions and just put things back together as you took them apart. Taking pictures as you go is a good way to do it if you have never done it before. The kits from dyno jet that I installed on my mikuni on my rhino was simple and easy. For my rhino, it made a big difference when coupled with exhaust and cold air

He'd have to source an intake adapter from performance vtwins, a cable that would fit his handle and the carb, and whatever solution to deal with the governor. He'd also have to play a little with jetting. There isn't a kit using the 33 for those engines and the jet numbers dont correspond between the 34 and the 33

Ahhhhh ok, I was under the impression that they had a kit specifically made for it, but I guess if there isn’t, then the job would be a little more complicated.

I used the BPS kit on mine but bought a 34flat slide instead of the round slide. I’m pretty happy with that set up but if I had to do it all over again I’d go with the 33-8012 and the PVT adaptor. Throttle cable and Governer block from BPS.

The 33 has the accelerator pump and will have a lot better low end throttle response. The 33 uses the same throttle cable as the big blocks the 34 flat uses the same as the 34 round.
