Hey guys new member here being this is the first mud motor I have owned. I have a 2014 36hp prodrive on an 1860 southern duck boat hull. The boats main use will be for bowfishing, so hauling weight will be a must, Right now I’m seeing mid 20’s at a little under 4000 rpm’s. Not expecting much more for a boat that size. Just ordered a voodoo exhaust and a new stock prop. The stock prop seemed like the way to go after searching through the forums. The motor will be ran on pulleys and cables to a steer stick on the front. 75% of the fishing will be at idle. But I want some get up to chase down a fish and be able to haul a couple hundred pounds of fish at a reasonable speed. Any help is appreciated, what mods would y’all do?

You have alot going on in that 1 paragraph.

-2014 PD on a 1860 - Ok big boat, but doable

-Currently mid 20's just under 4000 rpms - turn it up, why only 4000 rpms, or is it the motor can't push the hull. You should be able to turn it up more than that.

-keep the stock prop

-Could have asked before ordering a voodoo exhaust. You will see no difference in power, just louder. Exhaust is usually the last thing to put on an engine. There are way better things to "pump" up your engine that a "cool" looking exhaust

Not exactly sure how to turn it up.. I’ve messed with it a little. Turned the idle up a hair and tightened up some of the slop in the throttle linkage. It will turn 4200 rpms out of the water though.

Need to adjust governor. You should at least be 4350 if you don't have high Rev coils. If you do have high Rev coils, you should hit limiter at 4750 rpms. And your speeds will show a big difference.

Seems like this throttle linkage has a bunch of useless stuff on it lol. Could you point me in a right direction for the governor screw?

Screw it in clockwise. Start engine and let warm up. As your screwing it in, you shouldn't hear any change in idle. Rev engine and see if it made a change. If it did, turn in some more. Continue doing that until the gov screw starts to effect the idle. It will raise the idle. Back it off slightly until the idle comes back to normal. If you still can't get the rpms up, your govner spring may be shot, but that is a very rare occasion.

Believe I have the governor issue figured out now. Got the steering all hooked up tonight... now time to tap into the control box for the front steer stick. Anyone have an idea on how to do it? Plan is trim, ignition and clutch on the front and of course throttle.

You’re going to hate having a voodoo running all night of bowfishing. That’s probably the least cost effective way to see a minor (if any) noticeable gain. I had one come with my engine, and getting rid of it was a great day.

95% of the fishing will be at idle.. and plus a generator I don’t think it will be that big of an issue. At least I hope not lol

Should be able to add another switch and tie it into the same location as the original.

Well I believe I have all my wiring figured out besides a kill switch.. I’ve got a 2 pole toggle switch that I want to somehow kill the motor from the front. I’ve tried using a ground to kill it but didn’t work. Any help?

This is how I have my throttle cable tied in.. not a huge fan but it works. Trying to keep it away from the exhaust as much as possible. It works good but a little stiff.

Tore out the flimsy factory deck and storage and rebuilt the whole thing. Added a lot of weight but its a million times better than that thin factory deck. Steering turned out great and got everything wired up!

Empty with just me it runs 22-23. Bowfishing load and 3 guys it runs a whopping 17. Is this normal speeds or what. Got it up to 4200 rpms.

Not enough motor for what you are trying to do. You have a 36 HP motor that weighs 325 pounds on a heavy boat.... Your trying to do what a 90 HP normally does
