bent pushrod 4400 HDR MudBuddy

boatguy MMT Pro Member Joined: Mon Dec 05, 2016 11:59 am Posts: 219 Location: Panhandle of Florida	bent pushrod 4400 HDR MudBuddy Put in the new pushrod, set lash to .005, new spark plugs,,, gap .035 everything looking good. Put it back together and when I put it in the water and put it in gear.... about about 1 min. and start to come up on throttle it will run, spit sputter, and loose RPM and HP... Bypassed the fuel/water sep. , checked coils, made sure I was getting spark, same reaction Took the head off to see if I bent a valve or something... No bent valve but did find out that the valve stem seal was all buggered up. Valve stem guide is still nice and snug. Now looking at the intake valve (bent pushrod side) to see if the valve is damaged,,, looks good to me. **LOOKING FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS AND IF YOU THINK THE VAVLE IS SMASHED OR SOMETHING. NOT DAMAGE AT ALL ON PISTON. Your picture shows some normal marking from a tappet riding on the camshaft. Low spring pressure, pushrod jumped out of place and pegged the retainer down on the seal. Look where the pushrod seats under the rocker arm. When they jump you can usually see a mark from where pushrod tried to run. Fix: polish that cam lobe with 600 wet paper. Replace lifters. Valvejob, Replace springs with new pinks , 2x a101 .060 shims under each spring. Use billet aluminum pushrods. Never use the steel, they are too heavy.
