Post 23hp cylinder knocking. Rebuild or is it repairable?
Had an outboard on my boat for a few months and decided to put my 23hp mud buddy LT back on for duck season coming up. Started her up no problem but immediately knocking hard on one cylinder. (Video attached). Took the plug out to find it black and the piston grinding on the cylinder wall. Not sure of the damages done but definitely not trying to put a bunch of money into this old thing. What can be done????

Mods= timing advance key, hi rev kit (spring shims and valve rods) , thin head gaskets, carb kit, gov. lockout).

I found a bare block online for $85 and pistons for $30 each. Can everything else come from my engine or is there more I'm gonna need besides obvious gaskets and stuff.

It depends on if the rod was damaged, and if it messed up the crankshaft or not, as well as the head. You won't know that until you take the old engine apart and start inspecting everything. You will need rings for the pistons, and a hone for the cylinders on your "new" block. Maybe new pins for the pistons/rod link.

Alrighty. When I tear into it I'll see and probably post it to get more advice.
Thanks.
