Post PTO Switch
Guys,

I brought my boat into prodrive this past week and got some work done on the the engine. They got the issues fixed for me now I got my boat back on friday and took a ride to the camp, and my PTO switch fried on me. So I called Bart the mechanic on saturday and drove to franklin and bought 2 new switches and went back to the camp. Sunday morning while checking the trout line fried the first of the two new switches. I pulled the cover changed the switch cranked up and ran 2 milli seconds and burnt that one too. I checked all the wires none of them seem to be shorting out any where. And it was working completly fine up until this weekend. I had to electric tape a AA battery to the momentary button to make it home all the way from the bay. Anyone have any ideas or have had this happen???

I would call KP at PD and discuss with him.

He will get you sorted out.

Not sure what part of the switch you replaced, but there is more than just the switch that needs to be replaced when there is a problem..

Had the same issue (but only once) and he sent us what we needed and got it fixed right up.....

LA Outlaw, What kind of work did you have done to the engine at ProDrive in L-Ville?

It is possible that some wires running from the PTO switch got pinched, chafed, kinked or whatever, when they did the work and now you are having a short in the switch? Perhaps the clutch is going out?

Kingfish had the same problem down this way, His switch went out in the middle of the second split. He ordered a new one from PD got it the next day ( dem boys don't play!). We installed it and with in 5 minutes it too stopped working ( smelled like burning plastic at the switch but visually it looked fine ). We traced out the clutch wires from the clutch to the control box looking for any tell tale signs of a short but found nothing. We called Peck ran it by him and he said that the clutch's coil might be shorting out internally.

Now here's the kicker, I took the PTO switch off my motor (07) because I thought the new switch looked/felt cheap and we were dead in the water any ways. After installing it we put it in gear it and it stayed running! We let it run in the back yard for 3 hours. throttling it up every now in then. No problems what so ever.

But in less then a week his clutch quit working all together! Bad clutch and cheap switches. IMO ( they don't make em like they use too!)

Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I could have helped. As seen below, I had the same thing happen to me as a result of wear at the connector and the first time, dismissed it as a bad switch. Got myself in a bind in some mighty sharp rocks and had to drive back out holding the momentary button. Luckily, I didn't break a finger (or worse) and only ended up with the John Deere PTO switch in a "fashionable" yellow since there was no one in the area that carried the standard one. Glad you got it figured out!!

Custom...Oh Yeah!!!
(At least it matches my key float)
