I like the 54 for east tx running because the 48 draft to much......
by the time it gets skinny that u need a 48 it already to shallow to go
on another topic I think a 1860 wide open is my next rid.....

as far as draft depends on the chine on an 1848
Saw a brand new brother bateau 1848 sqaure chine with 2 people in it and it didnt draft more then 3 inches with driver in back and second person round the middle im sure if there was nothing in the boat it would be less then that!

i like my lil' mud dog. gets me into some tight places where wider boats would really have to work. wouldn't mind a 16/38, but my 14/36 works pretty good, oh yea, and its lite enough to drag.
