Post Steps i used to paint boat
material used :

B52 degreaser, can be bought at Crowe Burlingam / Bumper to Bumper hardware store
Auto Bahn Fiberglass/ Aluminum Primer -- 688 car quest
self etching primer activator--- " "
CPS flat black paint---- " "
CPS slow reducer--- " "
Aluma-Brite--- 688 or Ace Hardware, i used both as i had leftover
just make sure you have PLENTY
Ace Rust Stop flat black--- Ace Hardware

first, i used B-52 degreaser to clean the area and remove of any dirt on boat.

second, i used Aluma Brite and sprayed the entire boat. i did not cut it at all. put it in my 2 galon sprayer and sprayed direct. i let it soak for about five minutes. turned the whole boat white. after it soaked i rinsed away with a water hose.

third, i mixed one part primer with one part primer activator, let it stand about an hour, then painted a second coat of primer.

this is what it looks like after that

i could have painted that day, but waited til the next to let it sit for a nite

fourth, i mixed 8 parts paint to 1 part hardener. i only did one coat of paint. i tried using the CPS that i had used on my last boat but it had sat up too long and was real clumpy. i probably could have went to the hardware store and had htem shake the paint but i didnt worry with it. i just went and picked up more.

after paint

i wish i would have done two coats of paint, then put a clear coat over it, but this will do for now.

Good thing you got a few days of good weather to do the painting. The weather has been horrible around here, with very high humidity. Less than ideal conditions.

Can't wait for weather to get a bit better, less humid, to slap that coat of SW KEM-400. I didn't alumabrite it though ... just used scotch-brite on painted surfaces and spray self-etching primer on exposed aluminum. Hope it sticks ...

Are you camoing your boat?

shafer thats why i posted up that i wish i had put two layers and clear coat. i also think that i should have took a D.A . sander and roughed up the area.

melvin, actualy, believe it or not, it does not get hot at all. its just a tad bit darker than the flat green everyone else is painting there boats. i didnt have any problems with it on my last 2 boats that were black as well.

chris, yes i am going to camo it, but i am going to have a friend of mine do it. i dont have the patience to swap to all of the different stencils. using the cat-tail marsh stencil

Mitske im glad that you have daddys money to piss away and spend almost 300 on a paint job, but for people who actually have mechanical skills and half common sense on a budget, i did my paint job for around 125 dollars.

Not all of us have rich parents who give us money for anything we want.
