I have a 16x48 gator trax boat with a 32hp PD. I want to put a new camo job on both boat and motor but dont know where to start with paint color and pattern. any help or pics would be highly appreciated!

One of the guys on here, (TENPOINT) just camoed his boat. If your boat is already brown or green, go to walmart and buy the Camo Spray Paint. There are about 3 different colors. Then go buy some fake greenary. Hold the branches next to your boat, and spray.. Then move down.. After finished, do it again with a different color..

Are you just wanting to put camo on the color you already have or are you wanting to change the base color too? I'm doing my motor right now... painted my boat from bare aluminum.

looks good shadow, not to ninja dis thread but i never saw a rig up like dat on dekes to weight the down and looks like dey are a true tangle free.....how is dat done and what is used looks nifty and handy???? i always have probles wit my shiat.

I think im just gonna add to my current paint job. I dont have to be worried about getting paint on certain parts of the motor? In your pic it looks like you just went for it haha i like how everything is covered.

The deek rigs are called Rig-Em Rights. you can buy them from the store in packs of a dozen. you can make them yourself with small fishing swivels, decoy string and 4oz weights with a hole drilled out of them. I rigged mine up last season that way and saved about $5 per dozen because i did them myself.

Preping and Painting a Mud Motor

1) Spray motor with water and clean with soap and spray off with water.

2) Use a bug and tar remover to remove mud that will not come off with regular soap.

3) Spray the motor with water to get the all soap and bug and tar remover completely off!!!

4) Use a spray decreaser to remove any oil and grease that may be on the motor or paint you intend to paint.

5) Spray with water again to remove all.

6) (I cleaned my motor again with car wash soap and water...probably
isnt neccessary)

7) Now get a scotchbrite pad and some comet(household cleaner). Wet the motor and sprinkle some comet on an area. You want to keep the pad clean and not caked up with comet. You need to do this to as much of the area you want to paint as possible mainly the already painted areas but I did my plastic also. You are not LIGHTLY scratching the surface so that the primer will adhere very well. Do this to the whole motor. And you can be rinsing it off as you go. DO NOT APPLY hard pressure.... you just lightly want to apply pressure.

8) At this point you need to trim your motor up and down to insure all the water drains off and let the motor air dry a long time... i did mine over night in the garage so that no dust and dirt would get on the motor.

9) Next you will tape up all the places you dont want to paint, remove your tiny tac and tape the screen, I taped up my air inlet hole....anything else should be fine..but this is up to you.

10) Put some newspaper or something over your transom so you dont get overspray on the transom. Tape off motor around where mounted to transom if you are going to paint the transom mount.

11) Wipe motor and plastic any place that might have some dust or debris on it with rubbing alcohol. (not with your hand)

12) I sprayed my motor block(only) with krylon black bbq spray paint good up to 1200* (probably not neccessary) no primer needed.

13) Next use your automotive primer to prime your entire motor be careful not to spray to much as to create a run. If you do dont panic you can use some very fine sandpaper to sand it out.

14) Once primer has dried (30mins or so) you are ready to paint the motor with your base color. You will want to let the first coat get "tacky" will depend on temp and humidity but if you live in the south and your doing this during the summer it will dry before you can get back to start spraying where you started so spray with 2 or 3 coats of paint. Let dry over night.

15) Use your stencils or foliage to spray your camo colors on. Remember not to spray too much paint in this step you just want to lightly spray so that the base color comes through some kinda like a ghost effect. There are many sites that sell stencils and a few
different brands. Google search.

Hope this helps once you are done you should have a paint job that
will last a few seasons if not more.

As far as the decoys:

I took a decoy and tied my string with a loop too it, slide a egg weight down the string, if you want dept adjustment you can put one of those black clips on the line, then you tie a knot with a loop in the other end and thats what you clip your carabiner into. If you wanted to you could add a big swivel at the end before that last knot. I have heard that the big big monofilament line is better, or weedeater string.

i just camod my boat a few weeks ago, came out damn nice. i got some cutgrass stencils from reelfoot camo @ reelfootcamo.com. PRIME THE BOAT FIRST!!!! i skipped this step and just aluma brightened it and my paint is comming off like crazy. but i used dead grass green for the background, khaki for the cutgrass and put spots of dark brown on the cutgrass

Shadow, where did you get the stickers that you have on the cavitation plate?

if u want to go cheap and easy we get the camo paint for wally world wad a walmart sack in hand spray the paint on a a card board box and dab the sack in it the splotch it on the boat and mix ur pattern by changing colors wors great for us
