Post Taking out Flotation
I got a 1854 Gator Trax that has flotation under the front deck and in the rear bench seat. I was thinking of taking the flotation out to free up some more space up forward might leave the back alone. Anybody ever done this?

Wow you just opened a can on this one. The safety patrol is gonna be all over this one. I redid my front deck and yanked the foam. I did ad a floor and foamed under it, more for warmth then floatation. The foam I pulled out of my front deck was shot. It wasn't gonna do me any good if I did sink the boat. I was going to pulled the foam in the rear but it was in good shape so I left it.

I have a 16x48 alweld and I was thinking of doing the same thing but a small hatch in the back and only cutting out the foam the size of my hatch but I am kinda nervous bc I don't want to regret it after

They put enough in to float the boat with a max load full of water. If you start removing some of it, you may as well remove all of it. If you start taking it out its not gonna work the way it was designed to. It only serves its purpose if the boat is completely full of water. Does not make the boat float any better or worse with no water in the boat.

If you run a lot of areas with big water, or have small children you may want to think about keeping it in. A lot of us do run without it, but you have to be aware of the situations you put the boat in, and what kind of precious cargo you are carrying around.

I figure my other boat will sink so I dont want this one to feel special. I really want to move my gas tank and batteries up forward and this is the only way. Anybody know how hard it is to get the foam out? Is the whole void filled or is it just in pieces?

Pulled the foam out of my dad's legendcraft and it was easy. The gd's look like a bitch. Not sure on the gtx. Just have at it and find out! Haven't seen a write up on the gtx, but they were taking some serious weight out of the gd boats. Take some pic's of the process and let us know if what you remove takes out a bunch of weight.

I took at least 100 lbs of wet foam out of my GD boat. Here is a link to some pics of what I've done to my boat.
