Post 1/8 vs 3/16
Ive been narrowing my search down on what kind of boat i will be looking for once i can sell my boat. I will be looking to get a 1854 built for me (still yet to be determined who) with 21 inch sides and a tall transom. I know 3/16 is stronger but is it worth the extra weight and $$? It will only be 50lbs and $200. I run a lot of shallow stumpy lakes and log jam infested rivers. Most people run 1/8 gatortrax, excel, etc. and some of them look pretty tore up. Are there any drawbacks besides weight and money to the 3/16 bottom? Any reason not to get a 3/16?

3/16. Like you said its a negligible difference in weight and price.

So if 3/16 is that much better why don't production boats offer a 3/16 hull?

Because a very large majority of the customers use them in areas where a 1/8 hull can stand up to the abuse they put them through.

Also most production hulls are one peice versus a three peice bottom and sides and the added weight and cost of a one peice 3/16 would be unneeded waste to them since there isnt a large demand for it.

x 2 barroll.....i would give uncle-j a shout and talk it over with him about what you want. he builds a helluva boat and he could also steer you in the right direction of making up your mind about the 3/16 or 1/8, and he will try to talk you into a PD, dont let him tho bc a GTR is better, much better   !!!!!

and hey nunc-j hit me up when you hit 4000 post i may have something for you :o
