 Gator Tail hyd. steering question
Why some engines have the hyd. ram that drives the engine under the engine and some have them mounted on the side. I am adding steering on my engine and would really like to have it under instead of on the side. I do not like how it looks with the ram sticking out on a huntdeck. Really looks like it would get bent on a tree branch. Please let me know the pros and con of each.

Re: Gator Tail hyd. steering question
Not quite sur what you mean. Mine is under the engine and the hydrolic cylinder still sticks out the side. As for as getting bent. I have a huntdeck and mine has never been struck. It does not stick out but about 18 inches, which is plenty far enough from the side of the boat and if a branch were low enough to hit it, the console would take the hit before it ever got to the hydraulic cylinder.

Re: Gator Tail hyd. steering question
Thanks, I bought the kit the mounts under the power steering like a out board does but I see many more GT with the steering like you are talking about. I never took my kit out the box so I am sure I can return it if the ones like you are talking about works better.
Any one else knows the pros or cons of each?

 Gator Tail hyd. steering question
I have never seen one like the old sea star system where it's under the motor. I've only seen te ones like me and JC have that stick out the side. My guess is that the sea star system would not fit under the motor or no be able to flex if the motor hits something. But what do I know, I'm just a clear water pirate.
