 Phowler Boats
Have seen some people with Phowler boats on here was wondering if they are good quality boats and what the pros and cons are with them. Looking to put a 27hp prodrive on one. Would greatly appreciate any information on them. Thanks

 Re: Phowler Boats
I have an 1848 Extreme with the pointed bow and a 36 PD. I love my boat! It is built well and capable of taking a beating. I plan on having this boat for a long long time.

 Re: Phowler Boats
I have had a few and have been happy with all of them. I'm a fan of a big azz wide boat and they build them any size shape you want em. Very good people to work with! Also, check out the warranty, if something isn't right, they take care of you.

man I love my 1748 pointed bow! handles big water great and slips through timber excellent. I punish my boat and she is holding up flawlessly!

 Re: Phowler Boats
I owned 3 Gatortrax boats. They build a tough boat and I liked 'em all. I now run a Phowler 1852 Flat Front and I like it as well. Built like a tank...not a lot of frills. Just a tank of a boat at a fair price. I think my boat changing days are over.
By the way, I ran Hyperdrives on the first two GTrax boats and I ran both a Hyper and then a 36 PD on the third one. I run the PD on the Phowler now. I think the motor changing days are over as well.

 Re: Phowler Boats
I have also been looking at a Phowler with a 27 PD. Anyone else running this rig. If so, what kind of speeds are you seeing?
Thanks,

 Re: Phowler Boats
We have run alot of our boats with 27PD. First off, a 27PD is really a two man rig in most situations (with dog and full gear). An 1848 with 27PD will run at 24-26 alone, 20-22 with two guys and 16-18 with three average size guys, but you have to watch the gear and blind weight. We also ran a 1752 V front with a 27, it would plane at 15-17 mph with four people, no gear, so really the same as three folks with gear. The V's do seem to plane a bit easier with a load. Again, with most boats, a 27 PD is a two man rigs, three if you don't have a 240+ guy in the group. Again, if running a 27, go longer, it will help with planning a load. We have also seen improvements with the new three blade prop PD is using on the 27 PD, so you might want to get the three blade to help with loads.

 Re: Phowler Boats
Muddoctor,
There have been many questions about the correct / optimal transom height and angle for the std PD ???
What is the best transom height and angle for a Std PD ???

 Re: Phowler Boats
We set our High Transom right at 20", 21 is to high and we set our angle at 14.5 degrees, which seem to be the best overall angle.
