 Removable front deck extension
I have a 1854 gator tail with 8" catwalks and was wondering if anyone has added a removable front deck extension. Trying to avoid having anything welded. Looking for any ideas or info of how I could do this. Looking to add maybe 3 feet.

 Re: Removable front deck extension
Weld 1x1 angle on the front and sides facing down where you want the deck. Put it the height you want the deck. Build your deck with 2 legs and use the rest of the angle to strengthen the deck. Then just bolt to the angle.

Thats how I first thought to do it but just trying to see if there's any way to do it without having to weld anything.

 Re: Removable front deck extension
I was thinking of getting a piece of aluminum and bolting a frame of angle under it and then bolting that to my catwalks. Do you think that would be strong and sturdy enough. Also would add some sort of legs to support it.

 Re: Removable front deck extension
Is there any reason why you don't want it welded it?
Spud pole holes would work well in your catwalks that you could drop your deck in and pull out very simple.
But if not bolting wouldn't be too bad.

 Re: Removable front deck extension
I am sure you could bolt on some type of tubing to catch it but welding is going to be stronger and look a lot better in the long run. Mine was done at the factory but a similar system would work after the fact but it is all welded.

I have the same style extension. Couple bolts into rivnuts hold it in place. They are easy and sturdy.

Treated 1x2's and 1/2" treated plywood covered in hydroturf. Sits down around my rod boxes. Doesn't get bolted down or anything. Very easy to take in and out.

 Re: Removable front deck extension
Here is a back deck I had made. It just sets on top the gunnel on the sides and back of the boat. I have it bolted through the gunnel in a few places. It has the one leg that you see and a couple pieces of tubing welded to the bottom to stiffin it up.

 Re: Removable front deck extension
I’m about to fab up a deck like TPerkins shows.
Anyone have suggestions on the type and size of square tubing or other dimensions/schematics to show how they built theirs?
