I need to re-cover my bunk boards. Carpet is looking pretty ratty. I’ve searched and found that PVC trim over bare wood with counter sunk screws will work. Also, that some are using vinyl downspouts split in half to cover the existing carpet on the board.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I don’t want carpet cause I want ease of getting boat off trailer in (20x48).

Also, I believe I have pressure treated pine (McClain Trailer) so I don’t want the possibility of getting contact with the aluminum and the bare wood bunk.

remove carpet and apply gator glide.

If you searched the forum about the down spouts you probably saw a couple of my posts about them. I did it to my trailer in 2016 maybe? Anyways they are still on there doing good. I went the gutter route due to my bunks being new, but the carpet was torn and I didn’t want pressure treated lumber eating up my boat. Make sure you use stainless steel fasteners, that pressure treated wood will eat up everything else.

idk wtf you are after, but i threw away whatever came on my mclain trailer and bolted 2 2x12'' treated boards directly to the trailer about 5 or 6 years ago and haven't given it a second thought. countersink bolts and go about your bidness. !!!

a big 2 speed hand winch is your friend when picking up on a iffy creekbank.

@dead animal I just don’t want carpet! I looked into bolting it straight to the trailer but I think my skeg would hang down too low. (GTR).

Right now I’m leaning towards the PVC trim. With the downspout I would have to figure out the seams. I would assume the gator glide would wear off after awhile since its on a wooden surface.

I used the 4x4 pvc/plastic white fence post from Home Depot. Split them in half and screwed them on the sides so no worries of of a countersunk screw coming up and scratching the bottom.
The actual boards are rough cut cypress.

If you gator glide the bottom, the pvc bunks and carpet will wear the glide off.

If you have gator glide on gator glide then you have less wear. This is from Frog too, I asked and that is what he said works the best. Will be doing it to the new to me rig

I have the Caliber bunk wraps on my trailer and they work pretty good. In between slickness of carpet and gator glide. Search caliber bunk wraps on amazon. They’re a little pricey but it’s what came on mine

I have a McClain. I used 1x solid PVS trim boards glued with gorilla glue and screwed with countersunk screws. I did that 7 yeats ago and it still looks like new.

I’ve done the 1x PVC boards also. I got mine from Lowe’s. They’ve held up fine and do make launching easier. No need to countersink, it’s soft so just screw it down a tad further
