Re: slow rollin with a square chine
TXSHOCKWAVE...what hole do you have your GTR in...looks to be in the middle, if so, you can go down one more hole and get even lower.
on another note, is there an Academy near where Giga and Westend-dangler run?

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
once again... 2 pages of bullshit going off on a tangent..... but just for the sake of conversation, this is the stupidest pissin' match I've seen in a while. who the f#ck slows down and stops on top of a log? better yet, who the f#ck sees a log and decides that the best thing to do is idle over it? guess what, I cross logs all the time, and I hit them half throttle, then lift the motor up and over when I cross. so I'm not out measuring how far my motor trims down.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
slambin, i gots to have reverse so the long tail is out.. and what is a sd? oh wait...surface drive, duh, and carry alittle momentium, gotch ya.
looking for new holes in the timber to set up in calls for lots of slow rollin. many times i had to back out because of a logs or cypress knees blocking the way. it will be nice to go over it for a change. my hunting buddies are old farts, and im not far from being one myself, so the eaiser i cross something the less bitching i have to hear. i know it will take stick time to figure the best way to cross stuff but i can tell you for sure i aint looking to catch air. im thinking adding poly or teflon will make it easier to go over or slide off of stuff so thats on the list of stuff to check on after i figure out this chine thing, and a winch would be nice too.
and by the way.... i get a good laugh reading the jabs you guys take at each other. makes for alot of bs to some people but i get a kick out of it. besides, i have spent enough time on here to keep up with the jokes which makes it even funnier.....

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
Yep - I remember that part of the story - but where are the measurements ???
So do you yourself advocate climbing over the transom to un-pin and then again to re-pin the motor to cross an obstacle ???

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
No one called your name...
But if you want to use your GT rig as a sample to prove out DDM's claim - then measure the trim depth below a staight edge aligned with your boat bottom...
Enough cyber-fun time to go kill some more ducks....

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
Sounds to me like if you have to release something halfway to finish getting over a log, you need to learn to HIT THE FRIKKIN THROTTLE a little more before you get there. And them new chines on the GT Extreme series look bada$$, anybody know how much more the extreme cost? I didn't see the pricing on the site, only on the regular models.

i have a rounded chine and its NOT GOOD at idle, if your worried about bumping, smashing, raming, or anything else that describes impact with trees in close quarters at idle a round isnt for you. FYI

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
thank you wes. from what i can tell so far, a round chine is not for me. i want to be able to steer while putting around in the timber. round chine has been moved to the bottom of the list. for now square is still at the top.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
GiGa you talking about the way the gt trims down and being unstable.. First of let me let you know what i do for a living and how my FE come into play on this here conclusion.. I run 3 fabacation yards.. One has a 4 1/2 million doller state of the art shop on it.. So iron and i know a lot about.... Now with that said bro your ceter bracket is gonna where a hole in your belt housing if you run it like that!!!And when could be bad for your transom also!!

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
as far as my opinon on what the guy asked about....... nothing goes thru the woods better than a skiff. period. put whatever motor u want on it. it will split the bushes and bounce off the trees better than any flat fronted boat. u don't see many crawfishermen in a square-fronted boat for a reason.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
Giga, in that picture you just uploaded to an earlier post, is your prop touching the ground? The skeg? What's the angle from your output shaft to the straight edge off the bottom of your boat are you able to measure it? I don't have anything to measure an angle. I'm interested to see now who has a better trim angle out of ALL the mud motors.

Re: slow rollin with a square chine
ive been gone for 3 days and yall still phukin up this guys thread. Ya'll bicker like a bunch of damn women. th3- if reverse is necessary then you are of course limited to two motors. IMHO now that aucoin is not building boats anymore, I would suggest either going with a boat made either by prodrive or gatortail. If you go custom i suggest brother breaux skiff or flat. As DA said a skiff will bounce of off trees and split bushes for you. if i am not mistaken, all are square chines but brother may make tapered chines. I know you didnt ask about the motor, but if your in tight timber i would suggest the brother breaux boat with a PD. (yes i do own a GT and love it, but i am a firm believer in buying something for yourself not because everyone else has it. Ive seen where the PD strives in the timber more than a GT) To me square chine would be your best bet. then the GT extreme, then tapered and of course round last. But what the hell do I know. Im not an FE.
