The way the boat is braced makes me think that it will be hooked like mother forker in a year or two of hard use.

ive got 3/16ths bottom and i got dents deep enough that would hit those cross braces u got on that skiff.

The only thing I could see that would make it slightly stronger would be to notch each cross brace to fit around your flat bar in the floor so that each cross brace could sit on and be welded to the bottom. But that would have taken a TON of work to notch each cross brace four times.

Regardless which way your ribs run in your boat, if ya use it like a bulldozer, you're gonna bend (dent) the bottom. It dont matter how thick ya go, or how ya brace it. Its aluminum. if it dont bend its gonna crack. Im no expert, but Ive been building sh!t outta aluminum and steel for around 15 yrs now. The only way to stop the bottom from hooking is to not jump sh!t wit ya boat. Ive seen airboats with 1/8 bottoms last for years running marsh and dry ground. Some of the people on here get a boat wit 3/16 bottom and turn it into scrap in a couple of months. Come on dude, its a boat not a 4 wheeler. I just wish I had the money some of these guys throw away on boats. My current skiff is 100 ga. and has 2 years of prodrive use and 2 years of 40 merc use. It now has a GTR on it and has been commercial fished its entire life. Holding up great. If ya use it like a boat, itll last forever. Just my opinion.

lol... x2 on ya jacob... i dont plan on using it as a bull dozer just plan on using it ass a boat to get me around not jumping shit with it like some of these crazy forkers on here lol .. i think it will hold up just fine

yea i kno u wasnt dude its all good im gonna be puttin in a real double bottom.. not a false one gonna be welded in solid all the way round...

Sorry for the probably stupid question. But what exactly do you mean when you say double bottom? Like a floor on top of the bracing? Or something different?

yes there will be a floor on top the ribs that will be welded solid which will be a double bottom..

the boat is basically done except the transom im waiting to come up with the funds to buy a motor... so imma wait to finish the transom out with th channel and all ... i dont wanna build the transom up as a tall one then my luck be needing a short transom and have to cut it down r vise verser.. get my drift

yea no doubt a tall is the way to go but i dont have alot of moeny to get a gtr r pd like i really want so im prob be going with a long tail for now cuz they r easy to come by .. and that requires a 16 transom so thats what i was meaning on waiting to build it up... i can build it up less than 30 mintues wont take long... i mean the boat pretty much is done and i figured i have no more thn 24 hours in the boat... thats not bad for my first boat

That is why my Aucoin hull did not drop speed to bad after I caved in every square inch of that thing. BUT once the 3" in front of the transom is caved in 1/2" you will not be happy.

FYI....the 1/4 flat bar you have is not going to stop stumps so don’t let the liquid make you trash your hard work.

all i want is a smaller skiff for my 16 GDLT to run traps and stuff. maybe 16x42 or somethin like that. been lookin for one but cant find any smaller ones around. I want a smaller boat for my LT and then a bigger boat for a SD when i can afford one lol
