Post subject:  Where to get pods at?

Hey I am new to the forum and I have an alumacraft mv1448 with an older evinrude 25hp. I have had the boat for about 5 months and i love it. but now I have a problem with the back of the boat draging and getting it to plane off when i have three people in it so Im wanting to add some pods to the back to help with that. So the question is where do i get them at and about how much do they cost. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Alan

Can buy some prefab pods from Beavertail, or have a fab shop custom build ya some.

I actually thought about trying to make my own cause i can tig weld but i havent been able to find much info on them. I saw where alumacraft had some on there website but they said they were for tunnel hull boats. And also are they filled with foam or anything like that or are they just hollow?

They're usually hollow. Does your boat have flotation already? The design is pretty simple to do yourself. Just want to make sure you don't hurt the turning radius, and you want the back side higher than where the pods meet the transom so they don't drag when you get up on plane.

The only flotation it has is under the back seat and under the front deck. and also what would the specs be on pods for a 1448 or 1648 boat?

We just had ours built. The boat is at my dads so I don't have access to it for measurements. I know it was built pretty much as big as we could go without affecting the turning radius. We couldn't get them where the FPR would still work and be worth the effort. But that worked out fine because we had another motor without it so we just switched lower units. They gave us a lil over 200lbs of lift.

As far as the flotation, if your boat doesn't have any, putting it in the pods isn't gonna help at all. The flotation only helps if the boat is full of water.

Ok thanks man. Hey if you get the chance to measure the pods do you mind droping the specs on here.

i just recently put a set on my 1440 cause my 16hp gdlt was ass draggin' in the shallow rivers i fish. they actually worked to well and i had to relocate my trolling motor batteries too the back of the boat. but Boyd welding is the cheapest i found. Good solid pods with a plate welded on the back so u can bolt on or weld. http://www.boydwelding.com/products.html

Ok so I came up with another idea the other day and let me run it by yall. What if I got two thick pieces of aluminum and mounted them on a hing and made them into trim tabs on each side of the boat where the pods would go and they could adjust depending on how i need them to work that day. I dont know if enyone has ever tried this or not but its just something to think about.
