OK I got a hook in the boat -- Not sure how it happened. Its right in middle of the stern. Its almost like the prop got under the boat and hit it but the scrap goes from front to back.

Anybody got any experience with gettin a hook out and whats the best method. Im thinkin about takin a piece of 2x4 and a 2lb mallet. Should I NOT do this?

You can do it, but it will come back when you hit something again.

I had to take the floor out of my 16 ft PD boat that I had and lay it on concrete slab and go to town with a dead blow hammer on it. Across the bottom of my boat at the transom, was caved in atleast an inch higher than the transom almost all the way across. Mine was hooked from stumps, which I bet you caught a good one too or a log. Its not hard to dent 1/8th. You could lay a level on my cross braces and press down on end of it and stick your arm under the level on the other side.

2x4 and a BFH. but like Owen said, it'll be easy to "rehook" it.

Dead blow hammer on a flat/"LEVEL" surface is the best way. If you use a 2X4 you are going to hook the boat in the opposite direction if that makes sense unless you are on a level surface.

The best way to keep it from hooking again is to put another longitudinal runner in between the two where the hook is. When you are bending the metal back you are weakening the boat in that area. Think of bending a paper clip back and forth until it breaks. You are moving the molecules in that area further and further away from each other causing it to weaken. Best bet is to put some structure back on top of the hook to strengthen it.

Or once you get the hook bent back straight you could heat that area up to put all the molecules in a relaxed state and quence it with water to harden that area. Although I wouldn't suggest this unless you know what you are doing.

Do you mean an extra runner the length of the boat of just in that area? I was actually thinking about putting a x brace or something between the 2 that are there. Would a straight runner work better?

Mines not hooked too bad...yet. But I've also read on here an idea someone had of welding another sheet of .125 onto the bottom of the boat. How well do you guys think this would work? Think it would it hook again? At least this way I would avoid ripping all the H-turf out.

I think it will be as simple as reinforcing it in a way that controls the bend. We can run a couple extra Logitude ribs.

I am trying to figure out how you hooked a PD hull? They are designed not to hook. I am not saying there could be a peculiar situation and set of dynamics which could hook any hull. Do you guys know what you hit?

I can see if it hit right at the transom you could hook the hull as you state. I run my share of stumps, etc and the bottom of my past hull was flexed in between the longitudals-but no hooks. The weld joint at the transom and the bottom of the boat could be prone as it is a connection running perpendicular to the direction the boat is traveling and the direction of the longitudals. Are there guys hooking a PD hull in the middle of the hull? Again I understand we all hit stuff from soetimes wierd angles out of our control. My point is to hook a PD hull in the field of the bottom of the boat it would almost have to dropped on something- which could happen but rare. I guess you could hook it at the chine if you hit something at an angle hard enough.

i'm in the process now of removing that 1/8'' bottom and redoing it with 3/16'' like i should have in the first place. it took 4 gal of steelflex to go maybe 8' from the transom forward last ime. and then i lost about a 2' round peice by the transom and it damn near made the front of the skiff go under at wfo. i'm done with steelflex. it'd great when it's new.
