Does anybody know of any specific brand of trailer lights that are truly submersible? I've put several sets on that claimed to be but haven't had any luck outta any of them

if you want ones that don't blow the bulbs, your best bet is go LED. most of them hold up.

Otherwise it is hard to get something that doesn't blow the bulb. even the submersible ones let water in, and hot bulb, cold water, it will blow..

Othere option is to unplug your trailer lights as soon as you get to ramp and let the bulb cool a sec before you back in...

I'll probably try the LEDs. Any idea how much they run?

I have just broken down and bought a dozen bulbs and decided to cope with my forgetfulness of unplugging them.

Try academy.... or walmart...

The LEDs are the way to go. They don't get hot so you don't have to worry about unplugging them. You can get em at academy for 50 bucks.

optitronics- l e d i have them on mine b/c my paw-paw's boat sat 6 weeks under water for katrina and the light worked when i repalce the wire harness the only way to go in my opinion

I'm running the optronics too. No problems for me and I never unplug my harness before I back in.

Get the lights up and out the water. No blown bulbs or broken lenses. And run a separate ground wire from your light up to the plug and do away with all the ground issues.

Good point POKER. I did run a ground from each light up to the plug. I had forgot about that.

Here is a good site for LED lights. These will be my next ones. I have always ran the (over 80") with the lighted side lamps. If you get your lights up on post and with the over 80 lights you can look back at any point and see exactly where you trailer is and how its lined up. These folks have some good stuff. You can either run a ground from each light back to the plug or jump across the back from one light to the other and up to the plug in 1 run. Before I started doing this most of the issues I have ever had were due to the poor grounding method used for these lights which normally ground through the bolts used to mount the light.

ijust converted my Magic Tilt trailer to LED's and i think i payed around 60 for the lights but hell it beats the headache of haveing to get out and unplug and p;ug back up all the time and they are bright bright bright, love my LED's

I got mine from Academy!

i got mine from Harbor Frat they were $30 v $50 to $60 at academy and there submersible they are holding up good they look to be really sealed good !!!!

Oh, and check out the boat and RV lights on this site. Get some LED plug in bulbs for your standard running lights.

I had LED lights on my trailer and 1/2 went out then they finally failed after a few months of use... I switched to the simple $5 / light job at Academy... I replace them 2x per year on average and I chalk it up to maintenance... I am religious about unplugging trailer lights as to not blow the bulbs. I find that the corrosion around the bulb and connection is the trouble area on these lights.

The slightest bit of crud will keep the lights from grounding properly and I guarantee that most issues will be a ground. Get the light up high and out the water. Run a dedicated ground wire to lights. Seal all connections with liquid electrical tape. Use electrical grease on your bulb bases. I been planning on LED lights for years but by following those tips I have zero issues with light. I like the cheap fixtures because I'm more likely to break the light housing than anything. And you can replace the lense or single fixture for about 5.00. I never unplug lights either.

I have optronics LED on mine. They are about shot. Have had them on for a little over a year. Next best thing to do is get the lights out of the water.

I had the LED lights on my last trailer and they held up for over 2 years without any problems. When I bought my current trailer it had the submersibles on it already and I didn't want to spend another $60 for LEDs so I bought just the LED light bulbs and put them in the regular submersible lights and resealed the lights with silicone. It's been 2 years without any problems and it only cost me about $5 for the LED light bulbs.

Optronics for me as well. I never unplug mine and have not had any issues with them. I also run ground wires for each light. Seems to work best for me as well. I have resisted the urge to go to LED's but they sure look good.
