 running lights
so i am having an issue with my running lights going out everytime i have a hard impact. They are the shark eye version of running lights. Anytime i seem to hit heavy chop or debris when I am running, the damn lights fizzle out on me. I would think it could be a short in the wiring but it isn't blowing my fuses, and the lights will eventually come back on. Problem is...they don't always come back on before good ole 5-0 catches me. any suggestions??

 Re: running lights
Start by checking all of the connections between the switch and the lights. Sounds like the switch probably has a bad connection and the jar from impact is knockin it loose. Put a volt meter or test light on the wires goin from the switch to the lights first & make sure ya gettin power to the lights. Odds are ya either have a bad connector on the switch or a bad switch. Don't know where ya at, but if ya in SETX, bring it by & I'll rewire it for ya if needed.

 Re: running lights
yeah, like he said. it's gotta be a bad connection. make sure everything is sautered (however you spell it). that's the only may to wire a boat

 Re: running lights
Could be that the bulbs are bouncing and losing the connection?

 Re: running lights
The only way to wire a boat is with heat shrink butt connectors. Solder doesn't allow the connection to flex and will eventually snap. Solder also permits corrosion if you run in saltwater.

 Re: running lights
Switch itself could have gone bad.
To test on the trailer, turn them on and start jiggling wires and banging on the boat with your fist around connections and parts.

 Re: running lights
so i turned the lights on, and the flicker off when ever i beat around them with the handle of a screwdriver. sometimes they come right back on, other times it takes a while or not at all. the problem is my bow is filled with foam, and it looks like the wires run down in there. you guys think it is even an issue in the bow iwth the wiring or do i need to concentrate on the back panel where the actual switch is? that switch panel is a pain in the ass to access do to it being welded to the back of the boat. i can barely get into the tiny space where the wires are hooked up to the switches.

 Re: running lights
Since the panel is a PITA to access, take off the shark eyes and look for broken wires or bad connections first, but odds are that it's at the switch panel. The shark eyes should be attached with screws that you can acces from the outside (hopefully for your sake ). Where ya located?

 Re: running lights
i live in georgia. otherwise i would love some help getting re-wired. ill check out the panel tonight and post a pic of it to see if anyone has a good opinion on how to access the switch and fix it. im considering just having someone rewire it and put the panel somewhere else.

 Re: running lights
I am following this ans you said that when you beat around the light It flickers, so i wouldn't mess with your switch panel, the problem is in your lights, do both lights flickr or just one, if it is both i'm almost positive tht where the lights tie in together from the one wire that comes from your panel is probably breaking or rubbing somewhere! Easy troubleshooting lights just take your time and make a good fix

 Re: running lights
Doesn't the panel have screws in the switches that hold it to the mounting bracket? You can weld the switches in place to the aluminume bracket? But I may be wrong. "If" you have to rewire it, tie and tape new wire to the old and as you pull the old out the new will be put in place. That is if the wires aren't in clips or something.
Good luck.
