I am lookin at buildin a boat to hold a 23 hp sd.i have built pirogues before with a slick bottom and if you stuck the paddle in the water you would be turned around. i did put one rib down the middle and fixed that. what advantages of having a slick bottom vs one or two ribs? better handeling and turning with a mm? Thanks for any input! |

The advantage to the slick bottom is less resistance. When riding through mud or veggies, you'll have less dragging down there to slow you down. Also if you get stuck, its easier to spin the boat around. The advantage def isn't turning ability, these things slide like no other... |

With a slick bottom, the chines are what helps ya with turnin. Hard (square) chines slide, tapered chines tend to slide, but not nearly as bad, triple tapered chines & round chines turn the best. Of course, with stick time, it doesn't matter what ya run once ya learn how to run it. |
