mud motor on a semi v
I was told that a mud motor would not run on a semi v like mine. I have an Xpress 15' 46" duck boat edition ( http://www.xpressboats.com/view/138) and currently have a Merc 25 tiller. I was thinking about putting a surface drive on it to run more shallow water. Is this possible to do...anybody have a similiar set up?

Re: mud motor on a semi v
It's possible, but it's not the best setup. I ran mine on a 1548 G3 semi-v until I realized I was better off gettin the right setup.

Re: mud motor on a semi v
You won't get the same performance in the shallows. You won't get the same speeds. You won't get the same load carrying. Etc. If you wanna do it right, get a hull designed for a mud motor.
The xpress is a good hull. If its in good shape, sell it and look to buy a package mm and mm hull. You can get good deals on used rigs. Some in decent shape, some damn near new. Just depends on what you want to spend.

Re: mud motor on a semi v
I would not......I repeat......I would NOTTTTTTT put a mud motor on a boat with a v-bottom!!!!! If you do....you get what you deserve!!!!!
Mud motors are designed to perform on FLAT bottomed boats!

Re: mud motor on a semi v
Thanks for everyone's input.... I think I'm going to do what cb5331 said and either stick with my rig or sell it and start a new...

Re: mud motor on a semi v
Ran a mudmotor on my xpress. it was a 29 kawi hyper. Got 23 with one guy 18 with 2 guys and a big load. 3 guys and a load might as well idle.
