Phowler Restoration - Basket Case to Bowfishing Rig
by pwhnts5 ยป Mon Mar 23, 2009 8:15 am

A customer brought us this $800 basket case boat to restore and convert into a bowfishing rig. The motor ran (70hp Merc) but the boat was trashed, front decks had been removed and every rib was cracked and leaking badly. We repaired all the leaks, sealed everything, rebuilt front decks, lids, transom and built a removable bowfishing deck.

Here is the link to some of the pictures of the project boat.

Turned out pretty nice, we were happy with it and so was the customer.

Phowler Boats can do any custom restoration or retrofits to any boat.

Considering what ya started with, HELL OF A NICE JOB, Doc!

Looks like it would have been easier for you to throw away everything in between the welds and just start over :D That guy must have REALLY loved that old boat!

Anyway,again, great job!!

It was one of those deals where the customer really wanted one of our boats, but does not have the coin right now and was on a pretty tight budget. Found this boat for $800 and stuck a couple thousand into it and ended up with a pretty nice boat in the end. If it was not fixable we would have told him not to waste his $, but it was salvagable, just needed alot of work. We do these kind of restorations regularly for guys. We figure we have all the metal, equipment and paint shop here, might as well do some extra work and keep guys busy.

Looks good Paul but the guy needs a new steering wheel, that looks like the one that was in my first car........a 1977 Ford Country Squire wagon with the fake wood on the sides.

Twas a real chick magnet let me tell ya.

That wheel was about the only thing vintage we could reuse on the boat!!! We needed to keep something orginal  .

Your guys did a nice job on it paul. What kind of paint is that you sprayed. It looks like a hammer tone finish powder coat?

PS: Like gigafowl metioned, I'd like to see more this old boat posts as well! I'm just starting to build my own pods, I think I will take a few pictures of it as I move along and maybe post them here as well.

Smoke, that looks like the Granite Coat finish that is optional on all Phowler boats.
