I am looking at buying a small boat and a Copperhead 6.5 or 10 so that I can put it in the back of my truck if I have to and it will be easy to hide. I am leaning toward a 1236. Questions:
1) For two people and decoys, do you guys think a 1236 or a 1432 would be faster?
2) Do you think a flat bottom would make much of a difference?
3) In the videos, they run with a couple different boats, one is a Lowe 1236, which is 140 lbs with .050 Al. The one in the other video is something they are calling an "All Weld". It does not appear to be an "AlWeld". I am assuming they simply meant all welded because I cannot find any builder called "All Weld". Does anybody have any idea? I could have a boat built by one of the custom guys, but what do I build? The copperhead is very sensitive to weight at only 6.5 HP. I would have a little more leeway if I go with the 10, but the boat would still have to be very light. Does anybody know anything about that boat they were using?
4) Any idea of whether any of the custom builders could build something before duck season or am I just dreaming?

I would think the 14' would be a better bet, in general length helps you in speed, plus the 14 footer will displace a little more water, helping slightly with a load. Contact Uncle J, he has a line but he's pretty quick, never know til ya call.





And a flat bottom is always better for a duck hunting situation.

I talked to Gil from Copperhead today and he said that the "All Weld" boat with two guys they showed in the video was a custom welded boat built by a guy in Mississippi. He said he has a 1240 made out of 0.1 aluminum (not sure if the two are the same boat or not as I did not think to ask). I really want the width for stability so if I go custom I might do something like 13' long by 36" wide and it would still fit in the back of my truck until I get a trailer for it. I got on the waiting list for a Copperhead 10 so now I need a boat because the 10 prob won't work on my 1232 with 12" transom.
12'x36" = 5184 square inches
13'x36" = 5616 square inches
14'x32" = 5376 square inches
It would be an interesting test. Bigger means carrying a load better but it also means more drag when running across mud. I wonder what the best compromise would be.

And if i were you id go with a 1436. A 32 is just not stable enough. It makes me nervous in a 32. 12 foot is alright, but you might as well get a 14. we have a little 1236 and i wish it was a 1436. Check out weldbuilt boats from backwoods landing. they can make you a 1436 or 1236 all welded in .80 guage which is much thicker than most small jons
