during early wood duck we was out in the swamp in my 1648 war eagle with a 32 pro drive and we got in some pretty thick mud and got stuck. Next thing i know a guy in a what looked to be about 17 footer with a longtail motor came by me and just eased straight thru the same stuff. i was wondering if yall could point out any flaws in my setup with that heavy azz motor or if longtails just go better in that stuff.

You boat is not a mud boat hull.

How deep was the mud?

Longtails do really well when you have shallow water/ shallow mud but with a hard bottom.

If not, and you played with the trim, quack is probably right.

Its the boat. I have a 15' war eagle w/ a 40yamaha and a mud boat 17' long w/ a 23gdlt. I can push pole my mud boat through way more stuff than my war eagle. If its that much easier for a person to push a boat just think of how much easier for a motor to push a boat. This is due to the fact that flat boats have ribs underneath and square chines to help turn when on step. This also causes the boats to hang up. The ribs add more surface area to the bottom of the boat which means more friction.

Sorry I didn't see what type of flat you're running. No offense, but if you are running the same type kliebert as on Swamp People that expains it all. Your 17' may have 2 extra ft on the war eagle but its probably all in rake anyways not really helping it float much more.

No offense taken. Yeah it is long rake and makes it much easier jumping logs and things in the swamp. But its not like the one that they showed on TV. I read somewhere that the boat showed on tv was ugly, so i went back and watched the episode and must agree that was ugly. Mike's normal boats are just like gd brand but better. He dont put floatation in his boats making them much lighter and he brings the rake further back. But it is the same boat for the most part. Not many people know this, but Warrens original boat design was what gator trax is selling now. It had the square front and when testing it somewhere in the Mid west the lillies had bulbs at the top. Well he started running wide open and that square front kept snapping off those bulbs next thing you know the bottom of the boat is full of these bulbs. Mike said if you use my design that pointed front will not only keep you from hanging up on a tree in the swamp but also keep all those pretty flowers out your boat! Look what Warren is selling now. Mike knows his boats, and if you ever want a custom boat give him a call.

I work on a coastal restoration project. I drive the boats and do the maintanence on them. And I have no idea what happened with the pictures. I live closer to Springfield actually about 3/4 miles from Mike Kliebert but i know exactly where you at I have a camp on the tangi. Normally launch at traino landing cause I keep three boats in the water slips over there. How well do you know Shelby? I need to talk with him, I got a bunch of cypress logs to pull out the swamp and wanted to see if we can't work somthing out with that new toy he got.
