 seating ideas in open boat
In a mud hull with longitudinal interior runners and a completely open design (except the front deck and 1 rear pod) I was thinking that adding a couple of swivel seat bases would be the best option. I thought this would be simple, but the normal seat bases I am used to seeing would require a large amount of clearance to the bottom of the hull, which I do not have. That sucks because I really wanted the seats and mounting poles to be removable. Does that leave me with the only option being to weld some tubing across the runners, then some plate across that and mount a permanent base to it (on of the ones with the non-removable pole)? How do you guys have yours set up?
Thanks!!

I've seen shallow mount seat bases on a few boats. I am not sure if they were modified or not but wouldnt be hard to do if they were.

Use the spider bases. You can then place the seats anywhere.

Down it with true fashion coonass style. Use a a big directors chair.

I believe this is what they are talkin about. Really nice seats.
Cabela's is the only place I've seen them. You can buy the base without the seat also.

Re: seating ideas in open boat
I have owned five mud boats with open floor plans and have had spider bases in each one. I wouldn't do it any other way.

I like the seats posted. That would be a ice upgrade to mine. You can also use the old fashion dove bucket with a back rest. I have used these for ever. Plus you can store your ducks in the seat. Whichever way you go, I like being able to move the seats around so you can be positioned depending on which side of the boat you are hunting out of.

SQUARE SEAT BUCKETS WITH BACKS or buckets with swivel tops...... Put your gear in them and eliminate blind bags. Waterproof and flot if boat were to ever for some stupid reason flip over. I would never puty a seat in my boat without it being a storage unit.
