ok, here goes. ive got a 16' deep V with a 40hp johnson long shaft. it works great in deep water and on the lake. but when i take it in the marsh, its not that good. also i hunt the river alot and it gets pretty shallow. so my question is, what would be the best boat/motor combo for running the lake to hunt open water, and also running the shallow muddy/sandy/small rocks of the river? i want to get at least an 18' boat, and was thinking mod v would be best due to taking the boat in open water. i realize some are going to say that i need two boats. which would be great, i would love to have a bunch of boats. but the deep v will have to go in order to get an all around boat. thanks for any help. oh yeah, looking at keeping it in the 10-12K range, with boat, motor and trailer.

Threads like this have been beat to death man... Check out the reviews forum to check and see what kinda luck others are having with similar situations. Even just do some searching (be creative with your words), there have been many, many people before you ask almost the same exact question.

My .02, an 1850-1860 mud hull, with either a 35 or 36 (plus some if you can afford it). A semi v or any type of v is gonna kill performance and load carrying. A larger mud hull will handle rough water better than you think, just have to use a lil common sense...
