Post Re: Requested Photos of Prowler 14-16 Sneak Boats
Mitch,

You need to come down when we have some open water and see these things for yourself, everyone, and I mean everyone, is just amazed how stable these boats are. We are climbing in them from 3 feet of water and the boats hardly liest at all. I walked down the side of one in the blind hide with Cutt Down this weekend to get to the rear and it hardly moved. Same thing running up on stumps, the boat hardly tips.

Oh and on a side note, the floatation does work, I tested it again this past week in TN, never mind how it happened, but losing a plug in 6 degrees, alone while breaking ice out of the hole is not so much fun :o  :o . The boat floated until I got it into the boat hide and bottomed it out and unloaded my gear into the blind, it had over 14" of water in it before I could find Cutt Down's spare plug and get it installed. I was actually able to climb into the boat with it that full of water and it did not flip. Anyway, to make a long story short, they will float full and now my plug is on a line :!: :!:

The other thing that amazed even me was how well the boat and motor did in the nasty timber and cypress. It would just slide over stuff without much effort, I never had to get out of the boat once, not even motoring in 6" of watering the cypress groves.

Anyway, come down and see us and run one for yourself, you will be amazed.

We can rate it up to 25 hp but currently are sticking with 20 hp, you don't need more then that on this boat. A 12hp Copperhead, 10-14 hp longtail, 15 hp outboard or 18ish other surface drive is all you need to plane this boat with up to three men and gear.

got any pics of hunting layout style?

If not...can you set it up in the shop as if you were going to hunt out of it?
Curious where you would move the drop in seats to when hunting out of it.

Also have yall hunted out of these with a dog?

Post Re: Requested Photos of Prowler 14-16 Sneak Boats
Sorry did not get back on here sooner Willet, been digging out from last weeks storm still and now it is very, very cold up here and my lab finally had her pups Monday!!!!!

Anyway, yes we have hunting out them both as a layout and sitting up. Cutt Down uses camo flex limbs on his for both, only three or four will hide the boat, sorry I don't have pictures of it, but I will see if Cutt Down has any.

In the smaller boats we just use a folding turkey seat, sit down in the bottom using one of the adustable seat pans to act as a back rest for the turkey seat and then use the zipper cover like a layout door to cover up. It work very well in just about any conditions. I have a picture from the marsh hunt in Oct in WI, but it was really rainy and foggy that day, so you can't see much in the picture. We will be doing another show in a week or so, we will take some more pictures of guys in the boat at the show and post them up.

Dog can hunt out of boat if sitting up or behind or in front of you under cover if laying out. We hunting in MS in January with Bubba's dog Harley in the timber, we were mostly standing by the Cypress trees to hunt, Harley just sat on the nose of the boat by a tree, it was pretty easy to get him up on the nose after retrieves, the Gator Grip finish made is easy for him to get a grip and pull himself up with just a gentle lift on his colar/vest. He sat up there all day, no problem. I did hunt out of the boat in one area in the trees were the bottom was really soft and waist deep, just pulled the boat up under a tree at the edge of the hole and sat down, Harley sitting on the nose, birds never picked the boat out, just looked like a log laying by the trees.

Will get you the pictures you requested as soon as it warms up up here.

Thanks again for the questions and comments.

cutt down,

On the second to the last picture, what is the purpose of the area between the "Phowler" sticker and the "Series" sticker...the way it is carved vertical out of the otherwise sloped boat side. Have been wondering and can't figure it out. Is that just a place to be able to get a knee or foot up and get into the boat when you are outside of it?

Post Re: Requested Photos of Prowler 14-16 Sneak Boats
That is a built in step on each side of the boat. It is something I came up with while building the prototype boats. I was climbing in the boat with the boat at about 3.5' off the floor and it was a long side step for me to get over the cockpit wall and I got thinking to myself "this could be a challange if I was standing in knee to waist deep water/mud to get over the side and the cockpit wall in one step". The beam at the side is 48 and the cockpit beam is 34" so it would be easy to rack you nads on the wall - solution, make a simple step on each side to either get your foot or knee on to make it easy to board from the water.

The step also makes it pretty easy to pull a swimming dog into the side of the boat without using any special ramps or ladders etc, just lean on the side to tip the boat a bit, grab collar or vest to get their feet in the step and they will climb right up and in the boat with ease.

PW-- Have ya'll run the sneak boats with a 23 MB hyper or 23 GTR? With all the new hp restrictions down here and lack of water too a WMA hunter might like a rig that can carry a 2 man load close to the same speed as the 25 hp outboards but still be able to "walk away" in the shallows.

Post Re: Requested Photos of Prowler 14-16 Sneak Boats
No speeds with the 23 class of MM yet, have not had one in to try it. My biggest concern is the weight of these motors, they are more then double the weight of a copperhead 12 hp, so I am sure the performance, HP for HP will not be as good but it will most likely be decent, I think 20 mph + with two-three men is possible in a 16' model. The 40" Basic Light Jon boat will probably be a better match for the heavier motors, we hit 16 mph with four men in the 1540 we tested with a 12hp copperhead. We are still waiting on more materials so we can build a 16, 17 and 1840 to test with the 27 PD motor and see what that will do. We also have some prototype hulls coming in a 42" bottom out of .100 5086, yes 5086, that we are considering making into a slightly large sneak style boat for the bigger motors. Will keep you posted on that project as it progresses. Based on what we know about the little boats and the 1540 Light Jon, we think this might be a very good option for folks with HP restrictied areas wanting to run the 23-25 surface drives. No test with a 20 HP OB yet, but we have a new 15 hp sitting here waiting for a thaw so we can test it on a 14 and 16' model. I can tell you this, with what we are getting with the 12hp Copperhead and a 10hp outboard, a 20hp light 2-stroke outboard will be almost scary to run, just my best guess, but 30mph + is not out of the question IMHO.
