Post subject:  Custom Boat: How thin would you go?

I currently run a 1542 with a Stage 2 EVT 23mini and it runs great, couldnt be more pleased. Planes 4 people+gear and has a hellacious holeshot. However, one day I want to upgrade to a bigger boat, and get a little more dependability. Im thinking a 35-36 with carb and exhaust. The question comes with the boat. I have a friend who runs a 36pd and planes 5 people in a 1648. This is the size I plan to go with because of our blinds and what not. Anyways, the question comes with the alluminum thickness. I got to take a ride in another 1648 built out of .80? it was less than .100 I know, and it flat out flew, was easy to move, and floated with ease. I want to be lightweight as possible, completely open layout, almost like a work boat. Have any of you messed with anything less than .100 and what did you think? We dont really have a ton of stumps or obstacles, none that wouldnt bust up a .100 too. The biggest concern around here is floating. Also, is there really that much diff. in the calculated weight of the same boat? And who could build this for me at a reasonable price? A very basic, open, lightweight boat, no boxes or frills etx. Just trying to probe around and see what I can dig up, thanks.

I would say with .125. 1/8th
Your complete boat will only weight 60 or so pounds more.

I have been @ .100.... i wouldn't go there again on any boat that I plan to run in the crap that a MM is made for..... now I would do a .125 bottom and maybe thinner on the sides and internals....
