I see everybody and their cousin building boats in the carport these days!! My ?? Does any body build boats that are made to perform!! People want so much shit in them that you need a 90 outboard to push them and wonder why a 35-36 hp motor don't get the job done!! I guess I'm just old school keep it light and they will perform make them heavy and you ain't got shit!!! All you guys that's buying boats remember that keep it simple and it will do what it is intended for that is perform in mud lillies etc. Get a barge built and that what it performs like!!!one more thing learn how To post gps numbers just cause you had wind and current to your back you ran 32mph that don't mean your boat is a 32mph boat 99 percent of the speeds that people post are bullshit. Get a average speed of your boat and post that. Forkers with stock motors saying they are running 32 I will pass them up everyday running 29 shit like that eats my azz up

I never did understand why folks lie about the speed thing.... :?

As for building barges, you're correct. Keep it light and it'll perform...built it like mud buddy and your f*cked.

Post subject:  Re: Booats

Mr. Brooks did it run 33 all day everyday if wanted too. Or did you get that speed one day.. What I'm saying is 1 mph is alot to get out of these combos I chased 33 mph with my old stock boat for years and never got it ..

I'm just sayin' it did it first rattle out of box with me and Hoyt in it. Matr-Fact !!!

Seems as if it got slower and slower with mo junk that I thowed off in it ..... 'member when thay had what I called a speed prop that would run fast but wouldn't hardly carry anykind of a load ???? Thats what was on it gittin' 33.1.

Any o who ~ Who really cares ...... 29 to 30 with a decent load is awright with me .........

495hrs with 370 of 'em with the Hoyt mods and we are still just a gittin' it ...... hull gittin' hook bad tho ....... O-Well .......

Well.......................My skiff is now running 71 mph into the wind.

But my other one wit da GTR on the back only runs 28. Thats in a bayou with locks on both ends (no current) and no wind. Fastest I ever saw was the first day I had it, 28.5 with the bottom of my boat like a washboard.

Post subject:  Re: Booats

I averaged 26-29.1 MPH in my 1860 with stock 35 GTR averaging 27.5 MPH

I have hit 35 once with wind & current in my favor, I average at top speed (wot) about 32-33 MPH.

32 is no problem and if I am light I can nail 33-34

So going from 27.5 MPH to 32 is a great increase for me. I can still haul the same heavy hunting loads & run 30 instead of running 25!

So y'all have your lil jack me off meeting about my sword is bigger than yours. And i'll be riding 30 miles every 2 hours with plenty of cold Adult beverages to drink on the ride... :D

Carry on...

I would say build your boat for how you are going to use it. If you want to just use your boat for joy rides and go as fast as you can, you guys are correct- keep it light and simple. If you want a boat that has all of the comforts that one may want when basically sleeping in the boat during duck season- you may want to add a few features. Yeah- you give up some top end, but I didn't buy a mud motor for top end performance- if I wanted that, I would buy an outboard! Just sayin....

BTW- DDM I couldn't agree more about the speeds I see posted. When I first joined this site, I was beginning to get a complex... Then I just realized people are just full of chit!

Post subject:  Re: Booats

Also what Terry was getting at was not only about the topend crap but performance in shit. You put one of those barges in thick lillies and shallow water or just serious mud and you are screwed. Its easier to move a smaller lighter boat out of crap.

If I went with a bigger wider boat I would have caught hell at times running the hyacinth, thats when a narrower boat is gonna shine in my area. Ride through lillies in a wide boat and then a narrow boat cutting a trail each time and you can tell the difference.

lol yea i bet that would start some chit, but i wouldnt do that i was just making a point where i hunt the lighter the boat the better not only are they faster but they jump on step way faster and if you have to push theyre much easier

Post subject:  Re: Booats

I think the size isnt the problem its what they put in them that is!! I know they look good but 6 inch cat walks are stupid !! What are they for you dont have a cabin or somthing and that is just ads weight!! If your gonna put them make them a foot so at least you can stand on them and fish or somthing!!
