Are they considered legal on our type of boats? Anyone get questioned on them? I have a Phowler 1848.

Thanks for the input.

What you calling shark eyes? I'm not familiar with the term. Lights mounted flush on the sides?

I hope so! Although when phowler built my boat, they installed both the sharkeyes that I provided: (http://www.diamondperformanceparts.com/ ... 17173&js=n) and a removable mast mounted navigation light with a plug in the foredeck.

Bubba told me that some enforcement officers had taken issue with the sharkeyes on some boats, so they provided the removable nav light as a fall back. According to the regulations here in VA, they don't quite comply, but I use them anyhow.

Not legal as Nav lights in WI... That is why you were supplied with the mast light green/red.

If your boat design was not modeled after a cardboard box it will have some taper to it and you will be able to see both colors from head on, and at a slight angle.

Mudder, it is perfectly legal to have shark eyes, but they cannot be considered your nav lights.

That link I posted above is Wisconsin's regs. It shows split bow lights. Unless there is some reason your lights are obstructed or your boat flares out at the bow instead of in, I can't see how they are illegal. In the past I thought that the regs said either your red/green or your white forward facing had to be on the centerline. That is what I see in the WI picture. I put my white light on top of my motor to get it on centerline.
