 Onboard Battery Charger
I'm looking for an onboard battery charger.. Heres what I plan on charging... basically 3 12volt batteries, 1 cranking 12 volt and 2 12 volt wired in (series i believe) to run a 24 volt trolling motor. Can anybody suggest a good one...thanks in advance

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
Do you plan to always have 3 batteries in your boat. Thanks alot of extra weight aboard if your not fishing. If not then I wouldn't think you want a 3-bank. I have a Guest 1-bank just for my cranking battery which stays in the boat all the time. It gets plugged in between trips to ensure its hot. I swap out the TM battery for a smaller lawn tractor battery for back up when not trolling so I just use a regular chrger for them.

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
After fishing with more and more guys, I hear the same thing. On board battery chargers are OK but your batteries will hold up better if charged with a regular charger after a few "on board charges". This is coming from guys that live for tournament fishing, take it for what it's worth.

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
I always charge my batteries one at a time I have onboard chargers on the big boat but never trust them & always top off with a regular 2-4-6 AMP portable charger.

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
I have already installed a 70lb thrust 24 volt trolling motor on my boat... I plan on keeping all 3 batteries in my boat at all time, when fishing for the trolling motor and during flooded timber hunting to run the vortex , mallard machines...etc....
and no I am not a yeti salesman just a happy customer
excuse me for my ignorance but do (3 bank chargers) mean for 3 batteries? and so on and so forth 2 bank for 2 batteries?

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
Yes... 3 bank for 3 batts and 2 bank for 2 batts. I've had a Minn Kota 3 bank for 10 years with no problems.

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
I use the guest three bank charger on mine. It works great I've been using that particular brand for at least twelve years with no issues. Batteries seem to last a lot longer with the inboard chargers. Sure is easy to park the boat and just plug it in and walk away. I also have the same setup on my mudboat (2 bank guest). And used it on one other center console boat as well (3 bank). I can't say anything about the other brands because this one has worked well for me so no need to switch.

 Re: Onboard Battery Charger
A lot of their charging systems are configured differently on how to hook them up and how they charge. I have two Group 27 batteries with a 3-bank Guest charger. Mine has one charging curcuit (at a lower amp rate) for the starting battery with a green/red light and then two identical leads for the trolling motor batteries with one light between them.
I just hook up both of the trolling leads to my one trolling battery and get twice the charging amps. Since it seems like the 2 troliing motor banks on the charger are somehow related or inter-connected, it's worked great for me.
