 Hunt Deck?
Hey everybody. I'm new to this forum and i just thought it would be the place to post this question. I am looking into having a custom boat built. I am just wondering what everybody's opinions are about hunt decks? Maybe some of you who run a rig with a hunt deck would have some advice as to if you like them or not.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
Depends on the motor. Where are you located?

 Re: Hunt Deck?
I don't have an actual hunt deck, more of the "sport deck" type where it's just the corners. I like it alot. Makes it easy to get in & out of the boat & provides a great place to take a leak.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
The boat is going to be 16 feet long, slick bottom, flat front, and i was thinking with a 18" to 24" hunt deck on the back. Making it a total of 17.5-18 feet long 48" wide on the bottom. I am located in Utah.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
If being from Utah means you are going to power with a Mudbuddy the hunt deck is a great idea. I had two hunt deck boat and liked them quite a bit. When I re-powered with another motor the hunt deck was not ideal...but the motor was.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
IMO, 24" is too much. 18 would be ideal I think.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
I was also leaning towards 18". I have just heard of them going as big as 24". Thank you for your opinion.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
huntdeck is awesome. just be aware that the bigger you make it the farther your motor will be from where you drive. This can be an issue for some guys who like to stand and drive bc they have batteries, gas tank, etc in the stern of the boat. This means your standing a good two or three feet from your motor and the tiller handle barely reaches them.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
You may want to look into the sport deck. Serves almost the same as a huntdeck, but still gives you the room you need to be able to reach your motor, turning or not.

I really like the hunt deck on mine. Works great with reverse.

 Re: Hunt Deck?
I owned two hunt deck Gator Trax boats and loved them. Ran Hyperdrives on them and then I changed to the Prodrive. The PD ran well on my HD Gator Trax, but I had to use a handle extension, had to separate the hydraulic trim motor and tank from the motor and had to sit out on the hunt deck to work my manual Full Power Reverse. All in all, a bit of a PITA. So since I wasn't scrapping the Pro Drive I decided to get out of the hunt deck boat. But they work well and have some nice advantages, especially if you are running a boat with flotation and take advantage of your rear flotation being out of your way in the hunt deck.
