I JUST BOUGHT A DUCK HUNTER 15 (WRANGLER BOAT) LOOKING AT PUTTING A PRO DRIVE 27 ON IT HOW DO THEY DO ON OPEN WATER IN 2-3 FOOT CHOP THANKS FOR ANY HELP |

If you are in a 2-3 foot chop in a flat bottom mud boat, the motor won't be what you need to be concerned about... The motor will work fine.... The boat, not so much... Suggest you affix a empty clorox bottle to a rope and put in front of boat so you can find boat later when the chop lays down.... make sure you secure the other end of rope to the boat. Also, make sure whatever you put in boat is floatable or in some sort of floating container including any people in boat. |

My 1860 handles West Bay chop pretty good but it was a boat built for that purpose... It's a slowl crawl to get past 2-3' WAVES?!. If you want to get through it buy a DEEP V fiberglass and call it a day. Flat bottoms are more for back lakes & marshes you can take them across open water but your going to beat the hell out of yourself. 2-3' in a 15' boat? I hope you have a life jacket. We average 10 people / yr around Galveston dying because of flat bottoms, north winds & in ability to swim. 2-3' lol it would be sporting to take my 22' Robalo through that! |

I got caught in almost 4' with my 14 footer one March, what made it even worse is when the wave comes down it put me on a stump a couple of times. Definetly not somethin you want to do on a normal basis. |

Tide pulled some decoys out and had to go out in Breton Sound in Venice w/ a stiff NE wind and 2'-3' waves. I was proud on my huntdeck and bilge pump. LOL You need a bigger rig if you plan to be in that kind of water and not a flat. Sory to sound unsupportive but don't want to read later of you being rescued by the coastguard. Good Luck! |

most of the time will not be in that just concerend if the wind picks more than normal the 25 outbaord on it now does ok but i'm tired of using a push pole when i get into the mash (have to skirt edge of bay to get there) finally got pic to work new to posting been reading site for a while |

If u are constantly running heavy chop or big wave I would look into a bigger boat. Size of your motor won't mean a thing if your boat is sunk. We run some big water up here on the Mississippi river and I see guys in 16 foot flats that wont even go out when the wheather gets bad. I would look at like a 18 foot or bigger high sides and wide like 54-56. Maybe somthing like a semi v front to help cut the waves |

More on your ?.. the PD motor will work just fine in open water, they drive like a outboard what I would be carefull of is taking that boat where the PD will get u. That motor will take u places that boat should'nt go.....stumps, logs rocks. |

main problem i run into is muck the tide goes out you dont notice till the the boat doesn't rock when the dog moves |

Might want to have more bracing added to the transom of the boat, doubt it will handle the pro-drive on the back of it. |

2' to 3' I run hooked up in my 16' flat with my 36 gtr and have no problems takes them like a champ don't even beat you that bad just skips along just saying dont be a puss. |

he doesnt have a flatbottom. look up the boat, its a double v in the front, probably somethin like a modified v at the transom. id agree with fowlhabit, the motor will handle the boat, be careful of the boat handlin the motor. |

Dude that prodrive will rip that transom to pieces! It may only way 25 pounds more, but its gonna be slamming up and down. Especially trailering it down the road, you will see. |

Why even spend the money on a boat like that? I dont mean to be rude, but you would have prolly spent less on an aluminum hull. If you slap that motor on the back of that boat, one of two things are gonna happen. 1. The boat will crack or be useless after 5 trips in the back waters due to the power of the motor. 2. The transom is gonna rip off while gunning on it in the shallows, cause that boat is gonna hang shat big time. If I was in your situation I would have gotten a 18-20 ft rig bout 48-52 inches wide and slapped at least a 35 MM on the back to handle the big water and the shallows plus the motor. This is a piss poor match up if Ive ever seen one. Your asking for serious heartache and trouble. One more thing you better invest in is a good marine radio and a strong bilge pump. |
