Guys I have a 23hp scavenger (before anyone makes comments I know they suck) I am thinking about strapping it onto a small boat for maybe turtle trapping next summer. Do you think that a 1248 or a 1236 john boat would hold that motor? It is a 23hp brigs small block motor. I want to stay small with the boat for launching in really crappy places. When I need a big boat I grab the 1652. What size would hold that motor and do well? Its not fast by any means but I want it to move fine.... Thanks Kurt |

Just my .02, but I wouldn't put that motor on anything smaller than 1436. Pick up a rivetted 1436 for cheap & they're really light, so you can launch it about anywhere. |

Well, I've seen a 12' boat with a Copperhead, & it did good, but that lil bitty Copperhead didn't weigh 160 lbs like your Scavenger. That said, I know a guy with a beat up lil 1436 from Academy runnin a 23 MB mini lite (about 175 lbs) & it does real well with 2 grown men. I'd be concerned about hanging that kind of weight on the back of a 12' boat. Again, just my .02. |

with a good prop that motor will make good lowend power. it will be slow but should push well. i wouldnt be afraid to put it on a bigger hull just understand it will be slow. |

As long as nobody was in the boat it would --- as soon as someone went to the back it would start coming over the back And no I dont mean my fat ass in the back -- I mean a normal size dude |
