Post Looking for info on 35GTR pushing 1644GD
I already used the search feature and havent found any 35GTR's pushing 1644GD boats. Already have the boat and thinking of purchasing a new engine. If anyone has this setup, or knows someone that does, please post some performance info.

You may need to call & check on the transom angles...

Craig on here has this exact rig. His engine is modded, but I am sure he can give you some stock numbers.

Wonder why the man that makes the gd1644's has a 35hp rating on it?

The 16x44 is only rated for 27HP - and was designed for a 20 to 27 HP LT....

The smallest GDSD hull with a 35 HP rating is the 18x48 which WAS designed for a SD.....
And is also the smallest of his hulls "the man" would ever suggest using with a 35 SD....

I sold a GD 16x44 because I tried it with the larger SD and was not satisfied with
the performance - but with the LT it is an awesome rig....

Just my opinion - which is what the man was asking for....

Not sure what year yours is - but they don't wear that tag now - nor does
GD recommend putting the 35 on a 16 footer except the 16x54 and 16x60....

its an 07 model. I had that 31 mb on a 2000 model gd and was satisfied with it. It ran 26-27. Could it have been paired with a better boat? Maybe so. It did what I needed it to do.

Before I bought that 31 I pm'd Coco's son and asked him if it would be ok. On the 2000 model I think it did have 27 as the max hp. He told me to go for it that it would be fine. (On the old mmt board)....... Seeing as there's only 20lbs difference between the 27kohler and 31/35 briggs. Just call gd and ask em what they think quatro. What motor you running now? I'd say for it since you already have the boat. If you aren't pleased with it then just upgrade later. You would have to put wedges on the boat but that's not a big deal.

I have a 1644 gd round chine w a 35hp mud buddy. It Hauls butt and handles great 32 w one guy and 27-28 w two men and ice chest. It did not do well with my 35 gdsd at all. My gdsd struggled to stay in the water all the time no matter how much the tabs bent. Just my personal experience, not knocking the gdsd. That exact same motor ran great on my buddies 1650 hull. It was also my understanding Gd won't put a 35hp hp on anything that size because the floatation won't float the motor not because it won't perform. That was my understanding last time we were at gd shop. My neighbor has that exact rig. Ill stop and ask him for you next time i see him.

The 1644 round chine works good with the weight back motors. It definetly sucked with the balanced design of the the GDSD motor, Like Sammyc said.

thanks for all of the info guys, it's extremely helpful! This boat used to run a 31hp long tail for a couple of years and handled great; however, no longer have the engine and am looking to gain some more speed. Of course if all was right in the world i would get a brand new boat that fit with my motor of choice, but i have to work with what i got!
