Im thinking about taking my boat back to bare metal before sending it off for painting, Is this suggested or even a good idea? What the best way to prep the boat? I have seen some horror stories behind blasting aluminum boats so I dont wanna do that unless theres a right way to do it. |

Brad.. Let your painter worry about that.. If it doesnt stick, then it is their bad. It will be the same price either way. |

Just clean it up good and wipe it down with acetone...then paint it. That's all I've done on my last 2......... Or do like J suggested......... Or do it yourself and buy something nice with the cash you save. Sent from my iPhone 5 |

Mine was blasted with sand. It can be done, you just have to sweep it. Stand far back and be fast. For someone who knows how to do it its not hard. But its not really recommended. Like Jason said, let the painter deal with that. Thats his job. |

I took mine to bare aluminum. Pain in the A$$!!! Plus the painter charged me the same price. But i did it cuz there was about 7 layers of krylon over the orignal paint. |

i blasted mine Brad. Used sand with only about 50 psi and made fast short sweeps... dont hit the aluminum straight on and move quick... if it heats up thats when it will warp it |
