 Need Some Advice
I found a boat that I might buy. Not sure if the boat an motor are a good match.
The boat is a 16 foot Express with a 36 hp prodrive on it. The motor only has 18 hours, and is a 2008 with manual revers and power trim and tilt. The boat also only has 18 hours and it sits on a galvanized trailer.
I know the boat isn't ideal but would this work ok?

If it has a Mod Vee pass on it. I thought you was going to Let Brother build you a boat? My personal opinion 16' is too short!

 Re: Need Some Advice
Yeah was as thinking the same.
I want to get brother to build my boat but the money just hasn't showed up like I thought. So i been looking at used boats.
I do have a question you might be able to answer. If brother build a 1748 with extended front deck, driver box, and 5ft gun box how would a 30hp outboard push it? I got a new 30hp tohatsu 2 stroke at the house and i was thinking about getting the boat and putting the 30 on it, until i got the cash for the prodrive. Whats your thoughts? Not enough motor?

 Re: Need Some Advice
That 30 hp will push it fine. But if your gonna get a boat built I would go 18 ft. It won't cost you any more and you will have a much better performing rig when you do get that PD.

 Re: Need Some Advice
Ok so here is the next issue
I want 21 inch sides, and if I'm not mistaken that would mean i need a prodrive with the long shank but the Outboard I have is a short shaft. How could I make this work? What kind of speeds would i be looking at with the 30hp Outboard?

 Re: Need Some Advice
Have it built for a short transom. But let Brother know that you will be eventually putting a tall transom motor on it, and he can build it where he can drop in a piece of well braced aluminum and weld it in place to make it a tall transom.

 Re: Need Some Advice
I have done plenty of homework. Would a Jack Plate work on a mmt or would that be to much banging around for it?

 Re: Need Some Advice
Work - maybe if the motor didn't contact the transom when it is lifted
But not an ideal setup at all for a PD - they like to be close to the transom and like the transom to have a "hard" rear edge not a rolled rear edge....
Also each MM has a different "ideal" transom height and angle - they are not standardized at all - so your builder needs to build for a specific MM....
