Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
We have been working on a new boat design since late last year. We will be using this new V front to replace out old style V. We have been working with Big Water Outdoors in WI to design a new layout tender/blind boat for them to use on Lake MI and in Sturgeon Bay. We decided to go big. This is a 24 foot by 72" bottom, 103 beam guide boat.
In addition to the boat itself, we designed a removable cockpit style blind and pop blind system to meet their needs. They need to be able to haul 2-3 mighty layout boats and still be able to hunt with a blind while acting as the tender for they layout hunters.
This is a really cool project and was a good one to intergrate our new V front on since they can run up to 10 miles out on the lake at times.
Here are a few sneak peek pictures of our new Big Water Series hull.
Let us know what you think.

If you're running ten miles (!) out into a lake, in a 24 (!) ft boat, what the hell do you need a flat bottom for?

Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
Didn't think it was possible, but it's even uglier than the first " big water boat" y'all came out with.

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
I hate to pile on, but it looks like an old Aquasport with that turned up bow.
I agree with a previous post. If your customer is running open water, why not build him a v-hulled boat? My guess is that the v-bow won't even be touching the water when on plane, unless the photos don't show the v being carried aft about 6'.
I know you build a tough boat. I just took my 2066 across three miles of bay in a 20kt wind and had to quarter the chop, otherwise the boat would beat us to death. The hull remained perfectly rigid, but the occupants weren't enjoying the ride straight into it.

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
Here is the deal, these guys guide layout hunting in open water around sturgeon bay/green bay and the lake, it is a long run some days, they also guide for puddle ducks in the marshes around the same area and they guide fishing in the summer months, thus they can be running in 200 feet water down to 6" of water depending on the day and the setup they pick for conditions. They currently have a big deep vee boat, but it does not do so well when you get into a couple feet of water around the edges of the bay, drafts 18+ " of water or more. The vee front on this boat is not meant to be compared to a deep full vee lake boat and as noted correctly, in a low chop the rake will be out of the water completely, once the waves get to 18-24" that is when the rake will start to cushion and nose into the waves and smooth out the ride some. It will not replace a full vee boat, but it will produce a really good all around use boat for big water areas. Whats wrong with the trailer, that is our standard stock model for a boat this size PS. We already have designed a sub screen door for the Navy, it works great and it keep those little biting flys in scubba gear out really well, can't show it off until we get the patent finished. Pentagon is going to pay $500K each to equip the whole Tritan fleet. No bad for something that cost us $25.99 to make with basic stuff from Home Depot!!!!!!!

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
I hope thats a one off, cause if you are gonna build more then one you are gonna drive up the price of aluminum. It would make a good lake Erie rig but not for layout hunting unless you towed the lay outs, flat bottoms and layouts are a huge disapointment. We layout hunt with a guy that uses a 2072 G3 Mod v and it pounds the shit out of you and a 16 foot crestliner is a friggen dream compared to it. Love the paint.

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
Not trying to be a smart ass, but I have never been in the midwest or great lakes area.... But what do you need a mudmotor on a boat that big for? I feel like that rig would be to heavy to run shallow anyways. Is there a lot of hydrilla or lilies? Stumps? I just know everywhere i hunt a boat that big would get bogged down to easy or be to heavy to slide off mud or stumps or lillies.

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
Tp ush something that big you better slap you a 250 on the back and maybe a jet foot(if they make one for a 250) I would say that a tiller handle that big would be impossible but I seen these suckers close to my house and was amazed at the tiller outboard here. Must have some type of power steering unit on them.

Looks like it will work well for the Bay and shoreline, but for the big stuff their Duckwater is hard to beat.

I feel kind of dirty about it, but I like the front end! Seeing it in the water kind of put it into perspective. I would like to see that Rake on a 2060 with a wide open floor plan.

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
You have to understand just how these boats are being used to understand the design considerations. I am not going to get into all the specifics, but I can say that when this boat hit the water Sunday, it did everything we had expected it to do and did it very, very well.
With a 90 HP Suzuki, fresh out of the box, 42 mph with 17P prop, hit the overrev, had to go to a 19P. On step in about 20 feet. Added a total of 6 men( 1275 lbs or so) and we still ran 36-39 mph open water. Loaded the boat drafted about 7" at the rear.
Here are couple of pictures of the boat after we got back.

Re: Phowler Big Water Series Sneak Peek!!!!!!
The Big Water Outdoors boyz have just about got her all rigged out, we will be heading up there in two weeks to help with a Veterans hunt and demo event around the bay. We have the pop-up blind curtains finished and will be taking them up to install as well, we will get some more pictures up of the boat with blind installed, it works pretty cool.

Looking forward to the loaded pics! What are you guys hunting up there? Mostly divers? You consider a hunt trade? I'm in central IL and would love to try a layout boat! Maybe trade for a timber mallard shoot or a goose beat down?

Well it did better than expected.... 3 layout boats, 200blocks (we added when we got there need some puddlers to add to the 12dz divers), 300lbs of anchors and 4 guys and it still did 35mph..We had some camera issues so we didn't get all the photos we wanted hopefully this weekend
