alright guys why do most of you guys run boats no larger than 1860? I would think you would want a more open floor plan. Like a 72" bottom. They float shallow. ( draft less ) Most of the waters im around boat size isnt near as important as how shallow you can get. I understand that mud running is important in louisiana, texas and so on. Due to terrane most of the waters have very little mud but mostly water 6" around here. Stumps and trees are what we see the most. What speed do you guys figure as Acceptable? 25 seems to be a good all around speed. IM just trying to get a feel for why everyone thinks a boat has to do 30 or more? I would love to hear some opinions even if they are not pleasing. lol Also i would like to kn9ow about some big gatortail boats. No reviews at all on the bigger boats. |

my thery on the wide boats is the trail riding. I know the tranous machine that runs on our lease makes 36 or 48 inch ditches so going wider is nott good for me |

I read a review for a Phowler 2072 on here that sounded really appealing. Of course I havent found a review on any other site so this place is all i have to look at. Im considering a 35GTeeerrrrr Done!! LOL on a phowler 1866. As long as i can get on step and go 20+ i think i would be happy. Most often i haul Myself 285, wife 145, son 100, buddy 345, and maybe one more adult. And hunting gear. Im thinking no more than 1200 lbs total. |

You wanting this with a mud motor? With doing that each one of those ribs are going to act like little tunnels and disturb the water to the prop. It's not like an outboard where more water to the prop is good. It's opposite. Surface drives like "undisturbed" water at the prop for best performance. |

An 18-2066 or 72 will run with a single motor and get on step wih a good load and run in the upper teens to 20. They are not speedy, but they step pretty easy, they one draft about 3-5" fully loaded. We have an 1866 here at the shop with one of our 2N1 Blinds on it, with two guys it was fine with stock motor, with four and all the extras we needed to go to lightly modded PD to get it moving in the 22-24 mph range with three big guys, dog and 75+ blocks. With four it will still run around 21 mph. If you have to carry alot of stuff the 66 and 72 boats with modded single motor or duals is hard to beat. PW |

24X72! Now that's what I'm talking about!! My next one will be that big. I wish I had gone 72 wide on my Phowler. As soon as I can figure out how to power a ProDrive with a 3-cylinder Kubota diesel, I'm stepping up. IMHO as soon as the mud motor industry moves away from these MFing lawn mower motors and into something more robust, you will see more big mud boats! Back to the op's question. Different boats suit different needs. Take a big boat into the timber or run some small guts, creeks, or ditches, and you will see why many prefer narrower boats. Try to turn one around in the aforementioned gut, creek, or ditch, and you will see why many prefer them shorter. I love my big boat, but if we get a flood tide that gives us access to the timber, I carry a chainsaw in case I get hung up. I've also had to back up for 1/8 of a mile because the creek was too narrow to turn around in. I own or lease everything I hunt, so I can get there in my own sweet time. If I had to get out there and scrap for a spot on public land, more speed would be an imperative for me too. |

Figured somebody had built a surface drive mudboat but at what expense? STX CC freighters use those 200 Sportjets with a bit better numbers but also at $65k and up. |

You will like the dueal rig but get the 72"+ bottom. Also get you so polly on the bottom so when you get high and dry you can push it off. I have a 2054 with dual 36 PD and my next boat will be 22-24 with a 72" bottom. just havent figured out who is going to build it yet. If you are in East Texas let me know and ill show you a dual PD...for fishing i would get dual GTR's |
