pulling two boats with one truck
has anyone ever hooked two boat trailers together to be pulled with one truck? I'm looking for ideas or plans on how it can be done safely. I plan on making a long trip and want to pull mine and my buddies boat so that we can save on gas. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
If I remember correctly was it Hoyt who was traveling through some state and they made him unhook, go & rent a truck to move the 2nd trailer out of the state. I'd be upset but yes, plan your route correctly to make sure you meet DOT standards.

I'm staying in Texas. Does anyone have any photos of how the hitch is done on the boat trailer?

we use a piece of 2" square tubbing make it long enought to hit 2 of your cross members under your trailer we take some u bolts and secure it to. make you up a long wire go from your truck and plug lights into back boat

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
My brother does it alot with his camper. I think the regs in TX say total length 65' or less. Might say need trailer brakes on front trailer too, but that could just be for rv's

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
Every state is different and you need to check your local laws.
I tow tandem all the time in LA, and our laws are that it can not exceed 70', must have brakes on any trailer with a stated capacity over 3000# (regardless if it is the 1st or 2nd trailer), and appropriate clearance lights so many ft apart (sorry but I dont know that dimention).

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
Here in TN. It is legal as long as your not over 65' and NOT in a Commercially licensed vehicle. I have semi trucks that I drive and a buddy that is a state trooper told me it is legal. But, then again some officers dont really care if its legal or not.

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
I welded in a square tube to the rear of my flatbed so I could tow my 4 wheelers and the boat. I installed a second set of wires to plug the boat trailer into. It is just a matter of plugging in the rear trailer lights. Pretty easy thing to do.

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
The Amish hire a guy here in ky to pull their boats and they will hook three or more up and pull them to the lake so they can fish. It is a sight to watch them launch them akk

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
Buddies that used to live here did it a lot. About a 45 min trip to the lake so they would hook the boats up and pile into the 4dr z71 and take off.

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
Anyone doing this with a GT motor on the first trailer. I looked at it this season but did not think I could clear the motor .

First motor can't use trailer bracket!! Just turn to side and tie off to boat

Re: pulling two boats with one truck
Stupid but I did not think about turning it to the side. I knew I did not want to trailer on that little tilt up pin. I'll have to look when I get my rig back from the shop.
