Does anyone have any experience with the Briggs and Stratton 5hp outboard and or know if they are even made or sold anymore? I've looked around on the intraweb and the google, but can't tell. I have a non-mud application it would be ideal for. Looks like it'd simple to work on too.

They still sell them up here. Gander Mountain had them for awhile, but don't go there very often. For a grand I think I would find a nice small lt instead.

Propane-very interesting. I'll look into that too. I wonder how hard/expensive it would be to convert a full sized mud motor to propane. Not that there would be any advantages that I can think of other than reduced emissions which I couldn't care less about, and the shear novelty of it. It'd be a pita to "fill up" at 4 am if you forgot to do it beforehand...
