I went by Mr. Borel's today to see the progress on my new boat. I could not quit :D once I seen the boat. It's turning out exactly how I envisioned it would.

Fine looking boat, but where is the reinforcement for the engine bracket?

I know you dont really run stumps or anything, but bringing the false transom down to the floor like that is just creating another place for hooks to occur.

Owen's talking about the false transom touching the bottom of the boat. Even with the longitudinal braces going all the way back, the false transom is creating a place for hooks in between the braces. About the only time it'll affect you will be crossing the levees.

As for motor, if you decide to go with a GTR, give me a holler.

Beings that the plate is welded to the bottom of your boat, the longitude bracing is pointless. Especially with a 1/8th bottom. Hopefully there is a gap between that plate and the floor. If not, in the future you will find that your hull will create a suction. This may not be immediately. In fact, depending on your abuse, it may never. But, putting that plate all the way to floor means that your longitude braces are now pointless. I hope that your hull proves us wrong. Especially since this is your first custom hull..

Good Luck.

It's because it's welded to the bottom

Post subject:  Re: My New Borel Boat

I will break it down for you.

With a longitudinal braced boat, if you do hit something hard enough to dent the hull it will make a "tunnel" the length of the hull and not have alot of effect on the performance.

With that welded to the bottom it will "tunnel" until it gets to that, then it can't dent it, causing a dent in front of and behind where it is welded. This causes turbulence, disturbs water flow to the prop, and causes lift on the back of the boat. It will be fine if you run clean marsh all the time, and even if it does dent I am not sure you would ever notice it. Just saying it isnt the ideal weld on a mudboat. Anything crossing the bottom crossways will risk a "hook"

I see what they are saying, but i don't think you are gonna have to worry about it with the stuff you run casey, your an open water pirate. lol That boat is bad ass looking, Borel is very known for his tough hulls. i hit a piece of concrete running about half throttle at the boat ramp on Toledo and all it did was scratch the bottom no dent. Now that i OWN my boat seeing these pics, mine may be up for sale soon and have one like this built with the hunt deck a little different. I like the way the back of the hunt deck looks on the sides with it crimped like that. How did he do your chines? Also are you doing a pipe front end or is it meeting up like mine does? May have already asked you that.

my sides are triple tapered, i told him i wanted a mud boat and he came out with his own design of one and thats what i ended up with, never before built one like mine, yours is also a first with a huntdeck i believe that he has built. I"m glad you like it you'll enjoy the shit out of it, i still do every time it hits the water hell i like jsut looking at it. That boat is a battleship, a lite one at that. harldy anything is gonna damage it.

Got dang Mr. Carl does some fine ass work, best ive seen in since mine was built lol.......Good design you came up with Casey, if you can think of it that man can build it to a T

Once he started how long has it taken to get to this point? He built mine in about a week and a half start to finish. Now all we need to do is hang a GTR on the back and that will definitly top it off

I kinda thought you'd be itching to run it once you saw it being built lol just go ahead and get the GTR like Take'emgator said lol it really does look nice though man I'm deffinetly jealous Lol. I didn't know that Mr Borel does all that by himself that's pretty impressive for suregj

Him and his son use to build boats together for a while, he lost his son about a year ago and now he's doing it his self. Him and his son together could put one out in a week or less. they were quick. he builds the state boats that run around here. he's also built big huge party barges for crappie fisherman that guide on toledo.
