Just finished up a inboard mud boat. Put a brand new Mud Buddy 5500 CDI engine. Should have it in the water this weekend. Cant wait to test it out.

Re: Mudbuddy 5500 inboard mud boat
Got to put some seat time on the boat and it runs great. Had to open up the engine box to let the carb breath better. The boat holds 29.5-30 mph in deep water. I want to put a cup in the 12x12 wheel. Its turning up 4650 with one person or with 3 in the boat.

Re: Mudbuddy 5500 inboard mud boat
Draws about 2-3". The gear box is ZF Marine 1.56 to 1 in forward and around 2 to 1 in reverse. I put a 1" shaft and had michigan Propellers build the wheel in full weedless.
The engine was running very rich last weekend so I leaned the carb. out a little and open up the box more so I hope to get a little more RPMs so I can the the prop reworked and pick up a few MPH.
For being the first in board mud boat I build I think it came out nice and drives well.
Let me know if any one has any questions on it. I learned a lot building this boat.

I just finished one with stock 35 that runs better than that. Do u cut the shaft to allow u to put the motor further back?

From lookin at ur bell housing u didn't cut the shaft. That's y I quit buying from southern power & lights. That 2 inches is robbing u. Anyways the boat looks awesome. 3/16 r 1/8?

Re: Mudbuddy 5500 inboard mud boat
Also I see u running a split shaft coupler, those are about an 1.5 longer than the regular couplers. The key to these inboards with air cooled motors is getting the motor as far back as possible. U would think I'm lying but every inch counts. Just moving the motor back 3 inches have me 4mph on my first build. Bet u wouldn't think that eh? The boat looks awesome but next time cut the shaft, get a shorter bell housing. That one is cast so I wouldn't suggest cutting it and welding. Get the shorter coupling, cut the skeg tube and cut as much as u can on the stuffing box. Always push everything back. But never give up an inch for a degree. 15 is where it's at
