Hey guys I'm new to the forum and new to mm and mb. Been doing so reading and some research and think I'm going with gator tail. Looking at the 1754 with the 35 hp. Just wondering if the square or the pointed bow would be better?? I plan on this boat being an everything boat from joy riding to fishing to hunting. If you use a boat that's what I plan to do. Any help on this subject or any other helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Currently I have a 1436 with a long tail on the back but I dOnt have alot of info on the motor and not very satisfied at all. I am tired of buying other ppls headaches and after all they are getting rid of it for a reason. So I'm getting all the info I can and getting a brand new rig. Go big or go home!! Am I right?? |

Don't overlook the custom guys, plenty around and most build great boats. The bow shape is often decided by what type of terrain you run or personal preference. |

Alot of the guys running areas with alot of trees' like the pointed bows for running tight areas, if you run alot of open water and not a whole lot of trees' then get the square front end. Thats the best i can tell ya. |

Just to clear this up. I wasn't talking about the custom shops rather the second hand or third or how ever many times it has been sold and bought. And I plan on using my boat in all types of terrain from getting thru the woods to get to the honey hole for ducks and fish to going for a cruise when I get bored sitting at home. Would it be worth it to get the pointed bow just to be safe? And is there a difference when it comes to getting stuck in bad weather which one breaks the waves better? |

whether you get a pointed bow or not its still a flat bottom, so it serves no purpose in bad weather, if thats what you are talking about, as for the rake now v front or flat bottom will make a difference. On the other hand if your running trees like you say i would go with the pointed bow and call it good. |

Alright cool thanks. Being that it is a flat bottom are gator tail boats a rough ride in rough weather?? Or do the just skip the top for the most part? Just curious on this part never rode in a gator boat before |

they are just like any other flat bottom boat, in rough waters they will ride alittle rough cause of course there is nothing to cut through the waves. Now a heavier hull depending on the gauge aluminum will have a little softer ride but not much better. |

sure thing thats what we are here for! By the way good choice on your MM rig, you'll enjoy it alot, out of the MM world there's only 2 motors i'll consider and thats Pro-Drive or Gator-tail, with either one you can't go wrong, both companies stand behind there products and there CS tops the charts. The people that work for these companies really know their products and troubleshooting skills are really great. Hope all goes well for you and your purchase, you won't be disappointed |

yup, I know you can't go wrong with a pd or a gtr. Iffin I was a rich man, I would have both. Far as boats go, if you hunt timber in Ms. or Ar., I would look at a pointed bow, but on a used boat, gotta go with where the deals are! |

Swift, I've had the pleasure of owning both Flat and Pointed Gator-tail boats. My current Gator-tail is a 18 x 54 xtreme hull with pointed front and hunt deck in the rear center console, and like you I wanted a boat that I can pretty much do everything in. My first boat was 17 x 54 GTB with an open floor plan. I ordered it with hunting in mind and thought I would hunt out of it more. That ended up not being the case, we did more joy riding out of it then Hunting. So when I decided to order another one, I put all the little things I wish I would have done with the first one. I absolutly do not regret my decision to go pointed on the front. For me it was mostly how it was going to look, but also once i started using it i was impressed on perfomance. And it also handles rougher water a lot better that the true flat bottom, this is due to the nose of the hull having a curvature to it from how the point is built in. I don't think you will be disapointed with Gator-tail, Kyle's company is overflowing with extrodinary people. They really know their Product and know how to build what you are looking for. Their Customer Service is awesome. I'm just going to say one thing.............Hyot! He is the Man. I have had both and i feel like the flat fronts have more deck room than pointed ones. if you think about it an 18 ft pointed front boat is actually about 17 ft with a point and an 18 ft flat front is actually a true 18 ft boat. but it is nice hitting stuff in a pointed front and just sliding right off |

If you plan on spending anytime on the bow, go with the square. I've had both and I can put the nose of mine anywhere the back will fit through, the pointed just makes it a little easier to guide the boat in trees, with square, you just got be able to steer better. Square has more room in my opinion. |

Like others said - more room on a square bow. Also depends on whether you like to "part" brush or run it over. I personally like to run it over.
