| Post subject: | LineX on boat hull? |
I recently purchased an old Gheenoe with some dings and scrapes on the hull. Any thoughts as to using lineX on the hull. My use will only be in rocky creeks and a small river so I'm not concerned about loosing speed. Any thoughts and advise appreciated. Ron |

It'll work but I'm thinkin there be somethin called steel flex er somethin like that and it works better. Fills dents and glides well |

On the inside, won't hurt anything. On the outside, you must be out of your mind. Use Steel Flex, Frog Spit, Gator Glide, etc if you want to coat the bottom. If it has dents, use Steel Flex. |

Line ex on the outside is gonna slow you down being rough and ain't gonna slide well over rocks, mud, lilies. It is designed to grab and hold things in place, so your cargo in your pickup bed won't move around. If you put it ontje inside, it's gonna get real hot in the summer time on them feets. |

Thanks much to all who replied. I will look at some of the suggested alternatives. I was thinking mostly about impact protection of fiberglass hull sliding over creek rocks. Then I don't want to get where the resistance is too great either. Any products that would give some protection and be slippery? |

LineX makes polyurethane and polyurea coatings. Polyurea is also used in the mining industry for abrasion resistance on dump truck beds, conveyors, etc. It is sometimes used as a flooring material. There are formulations of polyurea from LineX and other manufacturers that are especially abrasion resistant. They are hard, but still provide elongation so that they do not crack and pop out when hit. Since your goal is abrasion resistance polyurea would be an acceptable choice. The downside is that it must be applied with special equipment versus some of the DIY solutions like Frog Spit, etc. You cannot apply a polyurea coating by yourself. The grainy surface on LineX truck beds is created by an application technique. Polyureas can also be applied very smoothly using a different technique. I just had a very abrasion-resistant polyurea sprayed on the bottom of my shallow water boat. I have not had it on the water yet. My goal is to be able to scoot over gravel bars and possibly have easier going in the sand. |
